Day 14 - Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017
I can’t believe we’re on to Day 14 of Learn How to Build a Website Yourself in WordPress 2017 – let’s keep moving on!
NOTE:

This is a breakdown and a recap on what I did yesterday to create a post to put on my website – Day 13:
- I’ve already written my content in Notepad or Word document
- Indicated what my H1, H2 etc., Tags will be - The Heading Tags
- Created my screenshots and have them available in a specific folder
- Indicated where my screenshots will be placed
- Downloaded any images and have them available in a specific folder
- Indicated where my images will be placed
- Have my affiliate links ready whether they be as a text link, an image link or both
And today, with Jay’s video, we’ll be posting our article onto our website. This is the link to Jay’s training video:

So…
We go into our Dashboard > Posts > Add New > Add our Title > Copy and Paste our Content
Time for Formatting our Content
Jay starts off his formatting with deleting the ‘span tags’ in the text area, these are internal formatting tags, this happens in his video at 21:40 mins. This is something I hadn’t seen before, it was very interesting and something I will definitely be practicing.
It really would pay to take a look for yourself. Jay says there’s nothing wrong with the span tags but he likes his text to look super clean. He believes that some of the reason he ranks so well with his content is that he deletes the ‘span tags’.
Heading Tags, Uploading Your Screenshots / Images & Affiliate Links
Now yesterday I told you that I had areas in my post layout where I had indications of specific content to be inserted into my post, such as:
- Indications of where and what my H1, H2 etc., Tags will be - The Heading Tags
- *** image here – alt tag - potty training your puppy
- *** affiliate link here – image link only - Puppy Training E-book
So now I’ll go through and input my Header tags, my images with their alt tags and my affiliate links, whether they be a text link, an image link or both.
How to Add Your Images & Alt Tags
To add your images and alt tags > Go to the position where you want to add your image > Add Media (top left) > Upload Files > Select Files > Before you do anything else – on the right – Change the title to your keyword > also put your keyword as the Alt Text > Alignment – choose where you want the image to appear > Link to – at this point it’s link to None > Size – choose the size of the image > Insert Into Post
Jay then creates internal links to other posts on his website > Highlight the text you want to create as your link > Click on the link icon – top bar > Click on the ‘wheel’ > Put in the URL or you can link to existing content > Put a tick in box - Open link in a new tab > Add Link
I always go through this process of adding links as I want to make sure that I put a tick in the Open link in a new tab box.I want my current website content to stay open while they search the content from my links.
This is basically the same process for creating external links as well – make sure you’ve checked that the URL you’re linking to is correct.
Once that’s done, scroll down to the bottom and fill in your Meta Title and Meta Description – we talked about that in Post 5. Then go through the Social Settings and fill in those details.
On the right hand side, fill in the Category that you want your post in and fill in your tags – Jay actually doesn’t fill in the tags section, but I guess for me it’s something I’ve always done!
Go through your content one last time to double check everything and then we can push Publish!
Go and have a look at your post and if you think it needs ‘tweaking’ go ahead and do that! Sometimes I can spend twenty minutes or so, JUST going through and 'tweaking' my content, I want the layout to look great and my images to be scattered throughout my content, positioned both on the left and the right.
With all of your posts, this will be a rinse and repeat process.
Once that’s done Jay posts on Social Media and goes out and gets comments, well look at covering that tomorrow.
There you have it, you’ve gone through and created your post AND posted it on your website – Congratulations.

You're absolutely right about that double checking, I know I've found quite a few places to 'tweak' things, just by going through twice and checking my work - it can make all the difference.
