Being A Perfectionist Is Holding You Back
I've been doing a bit of soul-searching recently. And among my discoveries (some profound and others more trivial), is the realization that my perfectionism is holding me back.
Yes, I'm a perfectionist. There... I said it!
You would think that be a perfectionist is a good thing. I used to think that anyway. I would tell myself that this meant "I had high standards".
But I've since learned that my perfectionism has been holding me back. Why? Because it's driven me to avoid things in the past - out of a fear that I wouldn't do it perfectly.
Rather than apply for 'that' job, I would leave it to somebody else. Rather than ask that person out, I would stay silent.
There are so many more examples of similar situations throughout my life. And this all stems back to a fear of being rejected.
You might be asking yourself, how does this apply to Wealthy Affiliate and my online business?
It's because for years now, I've been afraid that I will try to create an online business and it won't work out. So I've done nothing (and still been miserable in my full-time job).
Now that I've embarked on my affiliate marketing journey (with the amazing help of Wealthy Affiliate), I'm still weighed down by my perfectionism.
I'm spending too much time on creating the 'perfect post' - rather than aiming to produce a steady stream of content.
Well... no more of that I say!
My goal now is to produce more content. That means more posts - even if they're not perfect.
And the scariest thing of all - I will not be afraid to promote my website.
It's the only way that I can realize my dream of becoming a full-time affiliate marketer!
I hope you all have an amazing day! (I have to finish my less-than-perfect post now)
Jake

You're in good company. I have to work hard to stop myself. Sometimes I have to force myself to just do it and post it. I have to not be afraid of making a mistake and just do it. One of the 'post-it notes' on my bulletin board is 'perfection is an illusion.' It helps me. Christine
Thanks Christine.
I completely agree. Perfection is a nice idea but I've realized that it will always be an illusion.
'Progress' is a much better goal to have - that's what I think anyway!

Jacob, it's okay to strive for perfection, just realize that nobody's perfect--and never will be--it's the journey to perfection that makes you successful!
