What I Never Knew About SEO and Keyword Search Before Going Premium on Wealthy Affiliate

Wealthy Affiliate has taught me more about SEO and PROPER keyword search strategies in the week that I've been premium than I was ever able to learn in the last year on my own.

I've been in the freelance realm for quite some time (ahem, 8 years). I've written blogs with keywords I've been told to write with, I've been given templates to follow to make sure keywords are placed correctly, I've even been held a position as a copy edior, where my sole job was checking OTHER freelance writers' placements of keywords!

But the logic of keyword searches, which words rank better in Google, and whatever the hell "indexing" meant, was completely lost on me.

As a Wealthy Affiliate Premium member, I am gaining valuable, fundamental knowledge that will stay will me forever. I feel more confident in the posts I am writing now because I can come up with a content strategy, and KNOW it is going to drive traffic to my page.

Here's what I'm learning:

1. Choose a niche you're ACTUALLY interested in. I'll admit it, when I started Wealthy Affiliate I wanted to learn the quick-and-dirty facts of becoming a wealthy online affiliate marketer. But, I knew I only wanted to promote products that would be good for my readers' health and well-being. Wealthy Affiliate gives you inside resources to scope out your competition, affiliate programs you may be interested in, and tips on choosing the best programs to, you know, affiliate with.

2. Use Jaaxy. Having keyword tools is important for the success of your online business. Don't waste your time using free keyword searches. They run out. As a Starter member at Wealthy Affiliate, you get 30 free keyword searches through Jaaxy. If you're super organized and can plan 30 perfect, evergreen blog posts that will drive constant traffic to your site, then you can get away with the Starter membership. (You also must be a mythical creature and I must capture you purely for study.)

If you are more like me, who needs to research every possibility so I don't get bored of my own content, the Premium membership is more your speed. 3. Write a Story. You don't have to be an English professor or a published author to write good posts, but you do need to stay on topic and be entertaining. The best way to do this is to write how you speak. A conversation with your audience will be better received than if you try to impress them with flowery metaphors, or lumpy long languages. Your voice is enough for your audience.

Now, choose ONE keyword to base your post off of. Write about this topic. Do your best. As you write it down, you'll notice other keywords naturally fall into place. This is good, since Google is not a fan of keyword stuffing content. Write something real. Write somethting true. Your audience (and rankings) will thank you.

4. Reach out to the Wealthy Affiliate community. As I started the process, I got to know the members and the creators of Wealthy Affiliate a bit better. Everyone I've come across genuinely cares about the work they put out there. What's more, they care about HELPING each other succeed in their chosen niche. It's incredible watching someone's growth. It's even more incredible to see someone shine.
