It's not who you delete it is who you meet!

I recently deleted a person that was one of my Zoom contacts because a comment was received that stated "I want nothing to do with you." I didn't mind the sentence and have received these types of responses or variations thereof on several occasions. I just simply move on and meet new people. The world is full of them. This particular message made me angry because when I interact, I "SEE" the person, even in a written chat. I want to address the interaction so that others can avoid the same mistakes that I have made.

My passion overrules my approach! I am extremely passionate about what I do. I begin with the end in mind. I have refined my approach since I had the opportunity to correct the situation and we now have a very productive relationship. I am grateful for that opportunity. I realize the importance of teamwork and the ability to share the "big picture" with others. It doesn't matter what I see, since I must articulate that with other people that I meet so that they correctly understand it. It also doesn't matter what I see or want if others are offended by my behavior and conduct when I initially meet them.

My goal really doesn't matter! I can achieve more success and fulfillment by helping you achieve your goal! I may totally disagree with your goal, however, anyone who has a goal is worthy of support. So many people don't have them. I will focus on the goals of others so that i can learn something in the process, make a friend and create ways to accomplish them together. It is so much easier. I always tell people my goals first and it makes people angry and instead of encouraging conversation and the promotion of networking opportunities, it turns them into "notworking" situations.

It is an honor to work with others and create success.Even if I was able to achieve it by myself, I would have no one to celebrate with! I also realized that my vision is great and helpful! It should be "our" vision! It is something to be shared and cherished. By focusing on the "we" aspect of an undertaking, it is easier to share in the development of responsibilities and ultimate outcomes. Why join a group to talk about "my" vision? It would never be successful.

Eliminate barriers to articulation. I have a tendency to ramble and not always stay focused. As a result of the second conversation this barrier has been eliminated. I can focus on the task at hand and explain myself more thorougly. It's better to use the 50/50 rule in conversation. We must speak and write in equal measure to be successful with engaging our audience. The same approach must be used with individuals and groups, in my opinion.

In summary, I am glad that I had the opportunity to rectify a negative outcome and turn it into a positive one by simply saying very little but quickly increasing my ability and capability to listen. This interaction was especially helpful and educational. This person took the time to explain to me the rationale for using these words and also the process that went into using and choosing them with me. It's one thing to leave a conversation with these words and part ways. It's quite different when a second opportunity presents itself and we are able to understand the reason and become friends!

Very well said, Jack!

Jeff

Good stuff Jack, especially the listening part resonates with me. I'm with you there. Those of us who teach and instruct to live audiences can forget that God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth. And so I try to do twice as much listening and encourage discussion where I'm not giving all the answers.

Jack, thank you for sharing this reflective blog. I was intrigued from the beginning and I really wanted to find out your reasons and also why you took that approach.

It is so refreshing when we can admit that we made an error on our part, and more importantly, we have taken the necessary steps to reflect and rectify that wrong

Well done you. You have shown growth and with this you will do well as you progress throughout this online business journey
