Google Penguin!

April was a challenge for lots of webmasters and sites. Google was very busy making changes. Panda, Penguin, keyword stuffing. I feel bad for the black and white animal abuse of google. I always thought of Panda and Penguin as nice friendly animals, but since google April 2012 changes, this is no more.

Google Panda was still fine but after Google Penguin some of my sites got really a hit in ranking and I have no clue yet how to fix it, except getting a red marker out and check every page of my site as suggested in a post on SEOBraintrust suggest:
http://seobraintrust.com/red-pen-test/

they got a point, but it is to much work on a big site with lots of content.
I think it is worth a try on pages that lost rank after Penguin to see if it helps or to get a clue, else I say it is to much manual work.

J-R, what type of backlinks were you building?

If you did unnatural back linking then you possibly will have no choice but to start again. This is dependant on the amount of links you have. But over use of SEO can still result in this. But to get a more accurate summary of your website, use Webmaster Tools and correct the errors.

probably the best option for penguin is to start a new website... if your site has * load of * links go buy an aged domain and start adding content
