Social Media - how do you spend your time?

Hey Everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted a blog, but I am keeping my head down in the background. I've been working on social media recently, I watched some of Jay's excellent training events on the likes of the Pinterest campaign he recently ran, and I've started adopting some of his suggestions.
They say that using social media is a waste of time. But when you're utilising it to endorse your page and it has a specific purpose (other than mindlessly scrolling) and benefit, then it can be worthwhile.
Who would have thought that maintaining social media accounts would consume so much time though! Or am I the only one who feels this way?

My current conundrum is determining what percentage of my time I should dedicate to maintaining them. I'm particularly interested in the time spent other than posting my latest blog, as that's an essential function. This is where I would love to hear your feedback. Have you a golden rule with regards to how much time you give to social media?
Do you find any particular platforms beneficial or have you any tips on the types of activities I can complete to increase engagement and following on my social media?
I'd also be eager to hear your thoughts/opinions on running ad campaigns, particularly on Pinterest, e.g. how soon after creating a page should I run an ad? Should I wait for a topic I think would be popular and promote that pin?
I will treasure any advice, feedback and experiences that you have.
Best wishes and thanks in advance,
Sharon
