Acres of Diamonds

There once was a wealthy farmer who owned a large farm.

One day, a wise old man visited him and sat by the fire as he told him tales about the existence of diamonds, which were very valuable. He told him about other settlers who’d made millions by digging for these diamonds. The farmer, who had been content till now, suddenly became completely obsessed with the idea of becoming wealthier by finding these valuable gemstones.

So, he immediately sold his farm and traveled far and wide, searching unsuccessfully for the gleaming gems which brought such high prices on the markets in the world. But unfortunately, he reached a point where he spent all his money and is now left penniless and in rags. In a fit of despondency and despair, he threw himself into a river and drowned.

Meanwhile, back on his old property that he sold, the new owner was walking the property, and one day he found a large and unusual rock in the stream on the property. He took the brightly colored rock home and sat it on the fireplace mantel.

Then one day the wise old man returned, and he recognized the colorful rock on the mantel. It turned out to be a great diamond of enormous value. The farmer then discovered that the farm was covered with them. And it was to become one of the world’s richest diamond mines.

The first farmer had owned literally acres of diamonds but had sold them for practically nothing. In order to look for them elsewhere. If he only took the time to study and prepare himself, to learn what diamonds looked like in their rough state and thoroughly explored the land he owned, he would have found the millions he sought right on his own property. Right under his nose.

You don’t need to always look elsewhere for opportunity. All of the opportunities you could possibly want can be found where you are now - perhaps in your present job, industry, family, neighborhood or circumstances. Before you go running off to what you think are greener pastures, realize your own pasture is green and unlimited.

Hi there, Isaiah.

Gosh. This story gave me goosebumps, literally. It is such a beautiful storyline that parallels to the beauty of life and how the most beautiful diamonds can be right under our nose.

Running after the shiny objects in life is a total waste of time. In fact, the real diamond is peace of mind. This is priceless.

Did you know that you are a great storyteller, my friend - besides all of your other gifts and talents. Thank you for this inspiring, eye-opener.

Happy Sunday!

Very true, Isaiah!

I have always been content with and grateful for what I have. There's always that "one more thing," but I'm not a seeker of fame and fortune, just a happy and meaningful life. 😎

We have the same mindset, Frank!

I liked that so well Isaiah that I reprinted that book some years ago. Lots of wisdom to be found in old books. :-)

Mel

Thanks, Mel! And I haven't forgotten about what we discussed concerning old books and artwork! It's actually on my to-do list for this year.

Sounds good Isaiah!
