Starting with The Man in The Mirror
So, just to make this a short story, I will start by saying that my employer has scheduled some of my coworkers and me to a leadership seminar at the end of the month. Along with news of this seminar, I received an email which informed me of some required reading.
I am not here to promote the book, but as one might guess, it is related to leadership and self-improvement.
Self-improvement… to me, this means that it is motivational in nature. To that end, it has been just that so far. I am on a whopping chapter 4.
The read so far has demonstrated a person with a positive attitude, but with a negative outlook. The book is doing this in “Story” form, so it’s sort of informal reading and it is easier to grasp the concepts this way, rather than fall asleep.
I have already Identified with the first character in this book. I do go about my life in an upbeat and positive nature, but with time to think about things, I will begin to see how I am negatively affected by things.
The reading was done during my breaks at work and I’ve been actively thinking about what I have read and how it applies to me. I do wonder where it’s going.
So, I get home at 11:30pm, setup the laptop and sit down here to see what I can do to help out around here. This is my down time.
Uh. Oh! Down time! That is when I have the most negative view of myself!
So, I started poking around WA to just take a look at what I have done with my down time, and WOW!
So far, I think I’ve written 12 blogs to post on WA and it looks like 9 of them are negative in nature. I didn’t re-read them, but I read the headlines and I know what I was thinking about when I started to write.
So I’ve conducted a mini self-assessment and I’ve determined that I have let my deep dark soul spill over into other people’s lives…yours! When instead, I should have been emitting my much brighter spirit which would feel so much better for all of us!
Right?
Share good thoughts and good thoughts will be shared with you. We can really start to feel better about ourselves by feeding and being fed sincere positivity!
So this is my apology to those who have read my writing. While I won’t delete them, I want you to know that most of them aren’t worth your going over to see what I’m talking about.
So, I’m making a commitment to you and to myself to write with only a positive outlook. I want to improve myself and I want you to feel that you’ve gained steam, not lost steam from experiencing me or my efforts.
I think this self-assessment is a good thing! While this book wasn’t designed to do that, it allowed me so see that my innermost negativity can be the worst thing to share with such a positive community. I will be sure to give like I get from this community.
Thank you for sticking with me long enough to see that light!
On that final note, I will end with the one positive message that I share with every one of you that I have met:
I wish you the very best in success!

Hi, John! Thanks for sharing.
After reading your blog I'm starting to think that my morning rant may not be something to share. Our negativity will always be there, but if we accept it and let it sleep, we can focus and share good thoughts as you said.
Best wishes!
Richard
Sometimes it can be empowering to get it out there, or should I say let it out.
Best way to recognize what is happening, the best thing is to let it go and move onto positive stuff.
Best wishes for a creative year, John.

Dear Introvert, I applaud your honest assessment of yourself. What you have uncovered is huge in my opinion. My site is a personal development one where I address flipping negative to positive. Perhaps a method I use for myself may be helpful to you. Go to a Thesaurus and look up the synonyms and antonyms of any negative word and choose the antonym that resonates most with you. Then it is simply a matter of deciding to WEAR the attitude of your chosen antonym. I turned daunted to audacious and ballsy. It is fun to do and doesn’t require lots of analysis, questioning and all the heavy beat ourselves up stuff.
I hope this is helpful for you. Cheers now, AJ
I hope it's helpful for John because it's certainly helpful for me!
Thanks for this awesome suggestion, Jill!
Have a great day!
Have heaps of fun with it. Cheers AJ
