Finally Getting the Hang of The Internetsss

Hey out there!

Just a quick shout out to the community and all those who have supported me thus far.

I joined WA at the end of last summer but life turned a bit crazy for a few months. I therefore didn't have much of a chance to 'get serious' about all this until mid-December.

I suppose you can say this became a Christmas present to myself!

In a very short amount of time I feel I've gone from neophyte (even though I had been blogging for over a year) to intermediate learner. The only other field I progressed in this quickly was downhill skiing! But being of Scandinavian descent, that kinda makes sense.

The internet, however, did not make a ton of sense to me.

You see, I spent most of my life working the trades or maintaining golf course or driving delivery trucks and working in warehouses -- not exactly the types of jobs that sit you down in front of a computer.

I never owned a cell phone until 2010, and up until a couple years ago, my computer served as merely a receptacle for emails.

This was truly all new to me!

I had picked up on some of the lingo and concepts working with my last job's IT department, but other than that and some sales experience (which required a few tasks conducted on the computer), I was nothing more than a "hands-on" kind of guy.

What seemed to take seconds for my son to learn (he's 25 now, and therefore a "Millennial") would take me hours, days, even weeks or months. It was a miracle that I accomplished anything in my first year of blogging (having left the workforce due to the toll the heavy labor and long hours of driving were taking on my body, mind, and spirit).

Somewhere along the way I stumbled onto an ad for Wealthy Affiliate,

Four months later -- after obsessively checking and re-checking that this wasn't a scam, I finally joined.

Now here I am, getting a grasp on how best to utilize keywords and create content that ranks -- at last! Some of what I had already learned put me slightly "ahead of the learning curve" on some subjects, but most of this was totally new to me.

My biggest challenge, believe it or not, was the community aspect of WA.

A very private person by nature and not terribly social (I only joined Face Book last year out of necessity to promote my blog), it was very difficult to reach out to you folks whenever the lesson required it. Man, how I dreaded those tasks!

But, I've got to say, you folks have been wonderfully supportive and have made my transition from wallflower to 'guy tapping his toe at the edge of the dance floor' quite easy and painless.

A big thank you to everyone for that!

Now, as I soldier on in my chosen niche -- mens work clothes (you can understand why I think I know something about that!) -- and pass along a lot of what I am learning into making my other blog site -- The Critic's Critic -- a much stronger presence on the internet, I look forward to achieving even greater goals:

  • In the next three months I hope to actually start making money at this
  • Three months later, I hope to be completely self-supporting with my at-home businesses and no longer reliant on my savings account or the "kindness of strangers" and family.

So now that I've gained some confidence that I'm finally getting the hang of this whole "internets" thing, here's hoping that 2018 will be my most successful year yet!

I wish the same for all of you!

Talk again soon -- and thanx for reading!
