The above is just an example example of what can happen when you go back and check the on-page SEO of an old site that has been left for dead.
This is a site I made 8 or 9 years ago and it did OK but then I got bored of it and forgot about it.
I had some free time so decided to spend a day going through it checking the kind of basic SEO and site improvement that WA teaches - eg changing the theme; removing outdated plugins, fixing broken links etc etc.

I did some minor changes to the content, in addition to making sure I was using H2 & H3 subheadings etc, just to make it up to date factually. But I didn't change the length or type of the content at all.
The site has about 50 pages. So that took me I guess 8 - 10 hours of work total.
End result was an instant jump - i.e. within 24 hours - in the average KW rankings from 55 to 30 and it's now at around 23. This is tracking about 100 keywords.
So the moral of this story is even if you think you have done everything properly, go back and check every 6 months or year .
There will always be some improvements you can make to an old site and old posts and the result can be a quick & easy win.
I'll leave it to settle down for a couple of weeks and then spend a bit of time on the off page stuff to try to get the average back into the Top 10.
