YouTube Ads: Do They Work?

Maybe youve found yourself in this situation. Something in your house needs fixing or replacing. Instead of paying somebody else to do the job you look up a "How To' video on good ole YouTube.

As you're watching the video an ad pops up and interrupts the video. In my humble opinion, these Ads are like unwanted guests or flies at a picnic. They are annoying to say the least but I understand their purpose. Quality information, has to be sponsored, hence the Ads.

Everything costs!!

My problem with 90% of the Ads is they are not relevant to the topic that I am watching. Wouldn't it make sense to advertise something that would be useful/helpful to what I am doing? But instead I find myself watching an Ad for clothing or perfume when I could really use some help on how to replace a garbage disposal.

I guess in some convoluted twisted way clothing and perfume could be relevant. Replacing a garbage disposal is dirty and smelly work. So after I complete the job and few beers later, I am going to need some new clothes. And maybe some cologne. Got to look and smell good right?

I know YouTube could be used as a marketing tool and maybe some of you make videos for your niche and place them on YouTube.

The deeper question is : Do you have control over how the video is used or where it is placed on YouTube or is that up to the YouTube gods?

I would think that you'd want your video ad to advertising a relevant product at a relevant place. Otherwise, you run the risk of annoying people instead of helping. Which would ruin your brand. (I know one product I will never purchase...ever)

Believe it or not I've watched some of those Ads in the middle of the video and found them relevant to the topic. Therefore, after further research, I might even purchase the product or service based on the Ad.

Videos are the way to go to demo a product no doubt. It's how I research an expensive product. I want to know what the gurus think and watch how it works. Nothing like seeing the product in action to make that final purchasing decision.

Video Ads have their place but placed on the wrong topic could derail a whole marketing plan.

Should you use YouTube videos in your Marketing?
