Give a Fellow Member a Helping Hand

When it comes to asking and giving for feedback on websites. I usually get comments like Great job, nice article good use of pictures.

Those are positive remarks, and much appreciated but they are not helpful comments. Good feedback would include the reasons why the article worked or why it didn’t work and how to improve it.

I'll admit, giving feedback was detracting from what I was doing. Afterall, giving feedback was not doing anything for me. But I started thinking, what if my content was just as selfish? Then I would not be helping anybody.

Isn't that purpose of your webite is to provide helpful content to people?

Writing good informative feedback will develop critical thinking skills that you can apply to your website as well. So, it’s really a win-win situation. You imrove your writing skills and you help someone with their site.

See? Good reciprocation. A golden opportunity gained.

If others find your critique truly helpful then you are on your way to creating a website that will do the same. If you find it difficult to provide good feedback on someone else’s site I wonder how are going to analyze your own site. Maybe that’s why your site is doing so hot?

Check your analytics.

Is your bounce rate high?

Are you giving good feedback reviews of products that you are promoting?

Are you telling people all the reasons why they should buy this product or do this program?

Are you sharing your personal experience with this product and how it helped you

or are just selling?

Some websites that I've reviewed look like a giant cataloge with pages and pages of products and some blurb on why you should buy it. But nothing on how this is really going to HELP the visitor.

These websites don’t even have a home page or picture of the person doing the selling!

So much for likeability and trust. How is are these websites any different from Amazon or Best Buy?

The successful websites that I’ve seen share a personal story or someone’s personal journey with the niche. Like weight loss, fitness or dealing with depression an alcoholism. The authors of those sites also include picture of themselves doing the activity or sharing their personal struggles.

Remember you are connecting with people that have hopes and dreams just like you. We all want to be rich, good looking and happy. You need to tap into those inner emotions with your content.

There are many ways to do that, but one sure fire way is to share something about yourself and your personal journey. You may not be an expert in the field but you are an expert in your personal journey with the niche.

Personal stories are great. Everybody likes a story. Weightloss and self help programs use a lot of case studies to sell their products why? Because they work. Even if we are not dealing with the specific issue all of us can relate to a personal struggle that we are dealing with or have overcome.

Which makes up part of the same tribe.

With this approach you are reaching people’s emotions not their pocket books. When you can show people that you care about them and their struggles, they are going to buy from you because they trust you.

You are not selling them but helping them.

I’ve read a lot of bios on this site and I see there are a lot of teachers and consultants. I would think that providing feedback would be paramount to your profession. Therefore, providing feedback on someone else’s site should be second nature.

Teachers give students letter grades and offer ways to improve, consultants will help businesses grow, etc. You need to do the same on your website. Show people how much you care about there success and why this product is paramount to their goals.

Providing good feedback will do three things:

  • help YOU become a better website writer.
  • develop YOUR critical thinking skills
  • help YOU develop a writing routine.

You see this article is all about YOU not ...ME

So many times I hear people how they don’t know what to write about. Well here’s your opportunity to write something.

Think about it for a minute if you can't provide useful information to people on this friendly supportive site what makes you think that you can provide useful information on your own site in the cold cruel world wide web? Where people will bounce of your site like a rubber ball? No mercy?

Your site will be known as GoodYear or Michellin because of the high bounce rate.

Really think about this

Is your site giving the information/help that your target audience is looking for? Are they finding your topics engaging and trustworthy? Or is your website a big SALES AD? Like Amazon.

Don’t look at giving feedback as a necessary chore but an opportunity to grow as website developer.

Make it part of your routine to seek out people looking for feedback on their websites. Go to Amazon and write a product review and see how many people found it useful and do that on other retail sites. That’s a great way to see if you are writing something that is worth reading.

Finally, always seek feedback on your writing either here or someone that you know. Don’t underestimate the power of giving good feedback it will help you out as well.

I don’t know if there are any Gladiator fans out there but Proximo gave Maxiumus sage advice.

“Win the crowd and Win your freedom.”

Proximo understood the power of the audience to achieve what he wanted and you need to do the same.

Win your audience and improve your sales!

Can you hear the crowd chanting out your name?

Good stuff -- and all true. It is not easy to write engaging content, but it is something I work on with every post I write. Actually, I have lots of posts on my niche website that do not sell anything because I was more interested in telling the story. On the WA one, I put more links to my review. It is so much easier than going to some other site and grabbing their links, and I can still tell the story without being bogged down with advertising.

I also do not have ads on my websites, which might be a mistake, but I don't like how ads make the site look, so have resisted. Hopefully, some of this will end up being helpful for me, too, not just for my readers.

I am still working on developing my website and providing content.
If what you are doing is working then carry on.!!
