The Hidden Gem In CopyWriting
Hey Folks! How about taking a few minutes out of our schedule to have a discussion which can appear relevant to all content creators as we ply the way forward into our various online business ventures.
Online is an exciting place to be nowadays. There are tons of opportunities waiting to be harvested if only we are filled with the virtues of patience, endurance and far more importantly a support network.
The man whose mind is in doubt starts losing trust in him/herself. The absence of confidence is equivalent to not having the right frame of mind to adopt best practices to ensure what he/she is building stays sustainable and relevant!
Today we'll like to talk about hidden gems. Not the gems which was the bone of contention in the Disney Classic 'Alladin'. Today we look at COPYWRITING!!
Copywriting is defined as the process of writing persuasive marketing and promotional materials which will influence the decision of a target customer to take some form of action. Most commonly moving him towards making a purchase.
So, why will I describe copywriting as a hidden gem? The answer lies just around us. But I'll summarize with just one word 'Opportunity'.
The Copywriting Market Overview
The copywriting market was valued in Financial Year 2022 as having a dollar value of ~$21 Billion indicating an increase of 11.9% from Financial Year 2019.
Does this indicate that this industry is on a growth trajectory and still has many years and different industry disruptive trends to survive before it finally reaches its optimal point?
I can vouch for the former as this industry's revenue stream is found in all segments of human interaction. Be it in the Consumer Packaged Goods [CPG] or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods [as you may want to call it] copywriting is an important tool to keep the end-customer engaged and satisfied.
When corporates are drafting that important email to employees or consumers, its copywriting that's behind the scenes to ensure the hammer hits the anvil at the most impactful point.
At Wealthy Affiliate when creating content for our respective niche websites, we do employ a lot of copywriting to capture the attention of our audience.
Adding up all these inches, I will feel safe to say the copywriting market has an upward growth trajectory and those who generate their bread and butter from this sector stand to benefit from any opportunity that will improve their productivity and impact while utilizing industry best practice guidelines.
At the Intersection of Copywriting and The Movies Industry. Are you wondering where we are driving at? Approximately 23 years ago, one of my favorite movie directors created an epic picture spun out from the memories of the glory of the ancient Roman Empire.
Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott won 5 Oscars at the 73rd Oscars Academy Awards in 2001. The movie grossed approximately $461 Million worldwide and with the cost of a movie theater ticket in 2001 capped at $6, we can estimate that the motion picture had a global audience of 77 Million people in FY'2001.
The same bells that are ringing in your head just rang in mine. Yes!! the movie had a global audience of 77 million people. The same people we as niche website content creators are targeting everyday with our blog posts, interactive contents etc.
Without taking into consideration the cumulative audience this movie has generated over the last 23 years; I'll proceed to give you my favorite quote/line from the 2000 blockbuster GLADIATOR.
'WHAT WE DO IN LIFE ECHOS IN ETERNITY' I have had the opportunity to see the physical reaction of people when they hear a line from one of their favorite movies. As a matter of fact, groups of friends with similar tastes have spent hours reciting and mimicking their favorite lines and actions from classics like the God Father, Donnie Brasco and He-Man and The Masters of The Universe.
How do you react when you stumble on a familiar line from a movie that you watched and really enjoyed? Let me rephrase...How will you react to seeing your favorite movie quote on the box of cereal that was delivered to you?
At the intersection of movie creation and copywriting, lies the hidden gem which is opportunity to use lines familiar to millions of people to persuade them to become paying customers [or otherwise] for other products and brands which they need.
The Absence of Technology Might Make it EasierI am aware that there are some tech offerings that have tokenized lines and quotes from movies. However, this is not what we want to dwell on here.
I cannot simply download an image with my favorite Gladiator quote and place it on a mug and put on my online store for sale!! NO!!! Previous legal actions pitting record labels vs artists and vice versa, has given us enough room to notice that there is the risk of intellectual rights violations when dealing with copywriting and online businesses in general.
This, however, should not be a showstopper to dampen the sweetness of this copywriting opportunity in conjunction with movie producing houses and rights holders.
In a hypothetical scenario, the best approach to access images and quotes from movies to include in your copywriting ventures will be to pay a monthly or annual on demand fee to the rights holders.
This of course can be tweaked in many ways to arrive at a perfect business model that will create more value for all parties involved. Of course, with the right use of data combined with SEO strategy, copywriters like niche website content creators will best know how to capture the greatest value from motion pictures' lines and quotes.
So, What's the Way Forward?I spent a lot of time last week looking at different ways to create value through owning an online store. What I found out is based on the following points below.
- What will be your reactions to wake up every morning to drink coffee from a mug which carries one of your favorite movie quotes? What I learned is that it'll be far easier to connect to a category of audience based on age / year of birth with movie quotes synonymous with popular motion pictures released during the time period.
- Including movie lines/quotes and images in your blog will capture the interest of your website audience. Although not scientifically proven with data and statistics, this has the propensity to improve your click rates and conversions.
For an individual copywriter it might be difficult to have access to movie lines and quotes without actually going about it the wrong way [Downloading Random Images and Quotes from the internet] While I'll maintain a task to research on platforms that might be or are thinking of providing such services to copywriters' communities, I'll not seize to think of the hidden gem which relates to the potential target audience movies can generate for marketers in general and copywriters in particular.
I hope you enjoyed the short read. I have learned a lot while writing this article... A penny for your thoughts?
