My 1st attempt at adding an affiliate link to my post was a bust!
Problem solved!!!!!
I had ad blockers that were interfering with my links. They would not allow them to appear. I had some help from site support to remove them and I was able to post my links!! I even went to another article That I had written and posted links on that as well.
EVERYTHING WORKED!!!!
So, check and see if you have ad blockers if you run into the trouble that I did, and THANK YOU ALL WHO responded to my problem.
I can move on now, YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Initial Question:
So I just spent the last two hours writing a review of some books that I love. I then followed Kyle's instruction on how to add a link to my post. I joined Amazon. Then looked up the books. Clicked in the "find link" tab. Highlighted the link and posted them to my post. I published the post, then tried the link I got this:
So, what did I do wrong? Target blank, Huh? Yeah, I still have A LOT to learn!
I'm wondering if it is because I just signed up for Amazon and they have not accepted me into the program yet? But I was able to find my link after I found the books. I am so confused...
Help, please.

I am still working on finding the solution. Still struggling. UGH!!!

Thank YOU jmac86 and bluepop13 for these tips:
"blank" simply means that it will be targeting a new tab or page to be opened. Double check your link and make sure that the opening tags "<" and closing tags ">" are included. Also, you will need to paste these links under the TEXT view, not the VISUAL view in word press. TEXT view allows you to add custom HTML to your blog. :-)
-Writing and publishing from WA SiteContent goes straight to regular WordPress. It's the main area.
-Text View is where you would (in WordPress) add HTML and such for extra functionality (ie. aff links).
_blank just tells the browser of the person clicking on your link that when the link is actually clicked on, that page should open in a new window or tab.
So, writing this in regular WordPress will simply display the text exactly as you have it written. Writing this in the Text View will allow WordPress to apply the HTML as it is meant to work.
HTML can certainly be a bit tricky, as one small detail can cause everything to stall. You're doing just fine and taking things slow until you understand the details is a good way to go about the training.
Kyle neglected to mention Text view and Visual view in the training. This messed me up. I am VERY new at all of this, and I am VERY GREATFUL for all the support and help that I get!
I applied these tips and it still won't work.
So, I am asking for more help.

Again, THANK YOU in advance for your responses and help.

I was wrong about linking images. Most affiliate programs offer linked images or banners that you must use. You can only target="_blank" text links. My bad.
There is no link in there.
And I believe the problem arised as you inserted the link in 'visual mode' whereas you need to insert the link in while you are in 'text link'.
The easier way is by using the link tab (see image).
But I did not know about that TEXT -vs- Visual thing. That is where I messed up. Kyle did not mention it in the training.
You can also custom link an image in the media section of WordPress, and I believe you have the option on the link icon or in media.
Anchor tags are tricky, especially, when linking images. The best resource for basic html is W3 Schools. Google it
Best of luck. - Paul

The pleasure is all mine. If it worked, please be sure to update your blog with the solution so others with the same issue can get a resolution as well ;-)
haha, I appreciate the sentiment but must graciously refuse - already happily married ;-)
Just happy to be of help.
I was wrong, Didn't work. Posting links is trickier than I thought, please help me. Can you walk me through it?
I can only tell you my experience with Amazon.ca the Canadian version of Amazon. Things only go well when I choose the long text version of the link.
I can sympathize Virginia. For some reason google analytics will not talk to my site...worked on it for over 4 hours and still getting the error message. Arrrgh! Will try again tomorrow.
Good luck to you.

Well only temporarily. I am going to review everything eventually. Just too much going on at once right now. Trying to get through level five.
How can you be in level five and struggling with this problem? I am in level three. Did you skip over this? I recommend that you take this training one step at a time. I never move on until I fully understand the lesson that I am on. I guess That is why this is taking me so long. I'm moving SLOWLY!!!!
I followed the directions exactly as it was indicated. There were no directions about what to do about google analytics if things did not go as they were supposed to go. Constantly repeating the same action is getting me nowhere. No one is coming up with any answers. I refuse to stay frustrated in one place. Besides I am going to have to review everything for my second site anyway. Hopefully, some answer will have come up by then.
I think it has to do with text mode. Kyle neglected to mention that in his video. Check out the answers I am getting here to this question. It may help you too.
I know that I will look back on my training days and smile with relief that I survived! I plan to help others like me, because I know the frustration!
I use the text mode and it works.
Try use the text mode
You can use Edit post, there will have Visual tab and the Text tab.
Switch it to text tab.
paste the code at the preferred position and update post.

Sounds like you're definitely getting some help here.
I'm not to the point you are with affiliate links yet, but, in WordPress, yes, there is the regular view and the text view, as many have mentioned below. It's simply that:
Now, I did find a short video here that shows what it is I believe you are wanting the link to do as far as opening a new window or page or tab when it's clicked on by a visitor to your site: Setting Menu Links To Open In New Browser And I found this training here at WA which might be exactly what you're looking for, within WordPress: Links in wordpress I love helping with WordPress and HTML questions if and when I know what's going on or can find the answers.
Let me know if this helps or if you have any additional questions.
This is EXACTLY the answer I needed. Thank you.
You're welcome.
Glad I could help.
Thank you for asking and reach out as this can and will help others too.
All the success to you going forward.
That TEXT vs Visual mode is EXACTLY what I did wrong. I understand fully my mistake now. Thank you for your help and those useful links. I bookmarked them.
Apparently, I was wrong. I am STILL having trouble. Please see my new blog; Posting links is trickier than I thought, please help me. I so hope you can help me figure this out.
