What truly is realistic?

I'm a realist. I really like to know what I can plan for, if I can plan for it.

When I started Wealthy Affiliate in May, of course I was all gung-ho about starting and when we are asked to to leave our goals in the comments, I said I wanted to be making at around $1500 a month within a years time. I planned to work on my website as much as I could.

But life gets away with me more quickly then I thought when I started. I am working full time out of the home. I am also a full time mom and wife. Work life and home life take up a lot of my time, which I expected when I started, but now I realize that I cannot move along here as quickly as I had hoped for in the beginning.

So now that I have started and get an idea of how much time I can actually spend on my website, I want to reset my goals. And I'd love some advice from all of you wealthy affiliate veterans.

I am able to work on my website for about 1-1 1/2 hours a day. My website is about all things gymnastics-gymnastics equipment and such.....which isn't really in high demand but there can be a few high ticket items.

So what do you think is realistic? How much do you guess I'll really be able to make within a years time?

And also, do most people here end up doing the wealthy affiliate boot camp as well? Is that more substantial than a niche website?

I'd love your advice. You all are so wonderful and supportive of everyone here and I really appreciate it. :)

Hi Holly, I'm in a similar situation with 2 kids at home in the morning, and have a full time job in swing shift from 3 to 11:30.

I've been a member in WA for about a year already, and I've not built my website yet. I was looking into drop shipping businesses when I came across WA, but later I shifted to the local SEO niche. I am not a person who enjoys writing a lot, and English not my first language; and from a business stand point, I just prefer a service type business with (possible) positive cash flow.

The down side of shifting to the local SEO niche is the learning curve - I need to learn a lot more, and in depth, in site building, local listing, Google my business, Google analytics, content marketing, email marketing, etc

I definitely feel your pain when it comes to the available time every day. I have to do most of the cooking when I am with my kids, and have to bring the older one to school in the morning, which cuts my sleep into pieces. Even I can squeeze an hour or 2 at night, I usually feel burned out if I stretch too much on a regular basis.

On the flip side though, I do see the great value and unlimited potential in the training provided in the community here. I'm not saying you have to shift to local SEO or going into any specific niche, I just hope you can figure things out and find your own path. If you do have questions, there are many many folks who are really helpful, just take advantage of the community and ask.

Best regards,

Hugh

Hi Holly- I have a niche site and a Wa affiliate site and my suggestion is this. /if you only have 1-1/2 per day, I would continue to build your niche website with contents and of course affiliate links - The more you grow your site the more you will go up the google rankings and the more visitors will visit your site. If you start a WA site you will have to balance between the 2 and without the hours needed to do this, you may not serve either one very well
Just my thoughts and I wish you continued success on your journey
Vicki

Like you, I am roughly in the same boat with a full-time job and two kids to care for at home. I basically have to lose sleep hours to get more affiliate hours.

One thing that helps me is relying on my wife. She knows what my goals are with going affiliate, and hers are similar. We trade off watching the kids over the weekend while the other works on affiliate marketing. This gives us an extra 6-10 hours to work towards our goals.

Don't be afraid to ask your husband or family member to watch the kids for a few hours, just so that you can get some much needed alone time for yourself.

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you :-)
