Big Brother Online
So I am doing the training at WA and enthusiasticly going along until I get to the G+ and Google authorship/ verifying part, and until I try to create an online presence in social media for myself as a radio show host, with my on the air name.
Until I try to set up a second FB account to keep my business and personal lives somewhat seperated. Until I try and use Google analytics. Then things start to get a little bit creepy.
First I enter my name to be used in social media across the board, that means, if I connect G+, Facebook and Pintrest for easy promoting, then I find I can not do so.
Facebook would not allow me to create a new account with the name Hurricane Rena. Why not? Its my radio show host name, my online identity, my stage presence.
Is it ok with Big Brother Facebook that I don't want to share the online posts of my closest friends and relations with everyone else I am trying to connect with in my radio show, afilliate websites, and blogs? That I do want to earn commssions from Amazon at least amoung people who are my fans, if not my friends and relatives. That I don;t want to bore my customers with photos of my cousin's pets on the same site they connect with my business on.
Especially when I read a well researched article about the personal information both Google and Facebook are collecting and what they are doing with it.
Especially when I read about an act of law the goverment of my country is debating in parlement right now that will allow for more online spying and criminalize freedom of speech in a vaugly defined "supporting terrorism" that anything contradictory could potentially be interpreted as.
So I ask the question, put it out there for community debate, what is the professional thing to do about the creepiness of Big Brother Online in our line of work here?
Are we supposed to submit to it and bare all our information, allow our personal social media and professional to be irrevokably mixed forever, or do we find a way around it. How do we find a way around it? Why isn't Facebook allowing me to sign up with the name of my stage presence? Why isn't Google allowing me to verify my websites?
Its screwing up my whole social media marketing plan. Or is there something I just don't understand yet about how to do this? How do we use social media and maintain a healthy seperation of personal and professional life?

You can definitely use social media to market your business, and keep your identity to yourself, however, it usually helps when you show them a picture or provide them with info about yourself, people will trust you a lot more because of this. I don't know why Google is not allowing you to verify your website, I really think you should send them a message about it to see if might have been a mistake. As for the issue you have with facebook, I'm pretty sure you could just make a Facebook with your name on it and change the username to Hurricane Rena, it's actually quite simple, you would just have to go to the settings tab. I'm pretty sure that you are not being censored by them, I would check with them by sending a message to see what is going on. Hopefully this info helps out with your current situation. Thanks for posting your concerns :)

I decided to brand my real name and do not have family members friended on my accounts that will not let me separate them into business and personal.
I keep all my online business white hat and carefully watch and always keep in mind from one to millions could view anything and everything I put out on the internet so I keep it real.
Just one price for doing business I guess is not having a personal Facebook account..
I will not even get started on what all I think is wrong with Facebook, it is a very screwed up platform.
I will also urge everyone to stand up and do not let YOUR, and that is the keyword, YOUR government regulate the internet.
sounds like a good approach, but I had a personal FB account long before I ever thought of going into business online, and used it mainly as a way of staying in touch and connecting with the outrageous teenagers in my life, which makes it not always the best for business use as well. I thought I'd just start another account for that, and as I wrote about, found it harder to do than I thought it would be.
