Thank you, Fran. In my niche, housing, there is frequent news being reported that will be valuable to the various people that I am targeting. I desire to generate value and discussion by posting that information and commenting about it. I am unclear how connecting to RSS feeds will enable me to build an active blog that will be found, not to mentioned followed.

Howard, let me ask a couple of questions, first:
1. Are you imagining posting a summary of a news article and then commenting on it, on your site; then inviting comments from others?
or
2. Are you imagining reading (for example) the related news of the day pertaining to your specific housing niche; and then creating an article around the topic, and referencing or quoting the various news sources in your article?
or
3. Please describe what you imaging doing, ideally.

Once you respond, here, I can make better suggestions.

Thank you, Fran, for engaging in this discussion. Frankly, I envision doing all of the above. I will be addressing issues that are of interest to both the consumers of housing and the providers. I expect to comment on the news and try to evoke comments and inspire confidence.

Well, if you don't want a feed on your site, then you, yourself can subscribe to rss feeds for your niche. In that case:
- search rss feeds housing market (for example)
- for example, I found http://www.housingwire.com/rss
Your browser may have a reader, or you may need to find a good one on the web. Essentially, you can read these articles offline.

I used to do this, read through the articles in my rss reader, each morning, then report on the interesting news later that day.

For any RSS aggregator, you will add the sites to which you wish to subscribe. Then the aggregator (when you are online) quietly goes about its business and grabs the news from those sites, and adds them to your reader. If you have several sites from which you're pulling news, then this will just stream into your reader throughout the day.

Understand that you are not stealing these news articles. RSS retrieves only news articles which have been published by the author or site to their RSS feed. Each feed excerpt contains the author, a link back to the original article, sometimes images, and more metadata.

Another option is to actually feature such news on your site, directly, via a custom feed. And there are a few ways to implement this.

Essentially, for WordPress, you would get a plugin which does just exactly what you want. For that, you will need to do a little research. Some suggestions to get you started follow.

With a WP plugin, one might post the feed in the sidebar, for example. But with more advanced ones, you can actually set them up for "autoblogging". This can provide good content, if you choose your news providers wisely. Then you can still post articles that tie into one of these mini-posts. I provide a great visual example of this in a link below.

One such plugin is: "WP RSS Aggregator".

You could send them to any page on WA. At the top of each page you will see the white box with affiliate in it. Click on that button and it will create a link for that page with your personal affiliate id included or yes you could send them the banner link as well.

I am afraid that my background is not as agile in the digital world as yours. Can you help me find cPanel so that I may implement your suggestion?

I made the assumption that your site was self-hosted rather than being on siterubix. If you site is self-hosted, you can generally find your cpanel at http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel (replacing www.yourdomain.com with your own domain name).

I haven't built any sites on siterubix, so I'm not familiar with it's setup. I don't know if there's a way to access the wp-config.php file through the Site Manager.

If you can use FTP software to access your site in siterubix, then you use it the same way as the cPanel File Manager. Connect to your site, navigate into the public_html folder, right-click on the wp-config.php file and select the View/Edit option in the menu that pops up. Make your changes, save and re-upload the file.

I am on SiteRubix because it provides me the substantive support that my background lacks. I will attempt to get access by using FileZilla. Thanks again.

That advice only applies for sites hosted at companies other than WA. Sites hosted here don't have cPanel access.
