Website Ranking affected by Google Panda 4.2

Again, Google has updated and started rolling out Panda 4.2 which it could affect 2%-3% of search queries and it is lower than the previous refresh of 3%-5% in September 2014. The immediate impact was still unclear. There were no clear signs of a major algorithm update.

Who will get this affect?

Once the Panda refreshed, it has a very negative side effect, especially as these updates are not fully stable and this update seems to be rolling out much slower that we actually see. Google said that many high quality small and medium sites were ranking higher. But the slower update will make it harder to assess the usual “Winners or Losers” like we can normally do.

If you were hit then and have been improving your site, this was your first chance to get out of Panda. If you think that’s harsh, you’re not alone. Many SEO marketers encounter issue with this and that’s not going to be fixed so easily. If you get hit now, you should be aware that recovery is going to take several months, probably up to 10 or 12 months until you meet their requirements and following the rules. But no ones exactly know what is the latest Panda that going to be even the SEO professional.

The fact that Panda refreshed also means that making changes now. It has a cut-off date; I believe it won’t be able to see anything after that. That being said now is always as good a time as any to start improving your site. That’s really a big headache.

Panda 4.2 is a SLOW Panda

The quote from Google’s spokesperson says it all:

“This past weekend we began a Panda update but this roll out is happening incredible slowly. The update can take months to fully roll out. The Panda algorithm is still indeed a site-wide algorithm but some of your web pages might not see a change immediately."

What you need to know about Google Panda update

Panda is like a filter that sits on top of the core algorithm and focuses on a specific factor which its eliminating those website with thin content by penalising those sites that don’t fall within Google guidelines. In fact, Google Search Engine has hundreds of known filters such as Panda, Penguin, Pirate, Phantom and Pigeon.

Make Sure the Google Panda Update is a Reward for Your site

If you want to make sure that Google Panda rewards your sites, ensure that you are creating unique content that matches searches that matter to your visitors or customers as well as good comments.

“Markets who are staying within Google’s guidelines and creating unique and compelling content will be rewarded for those efforts with this Panda push.” – Pat Reinhart, Conductor Director of Digital Strategies.

SEO still works just have to go on the right track. I would recommend you to read Google Webmaster Guidelines (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769...) to help yourself to find your website by the major search engines. Two SEO basics to keep your site better ranking.

  1. Quality Contents – As we all know, search engines love the content. Search your entire site for the thin content pages and note down their URLs. Delete the thin posts. Otherwise edit these posts and adding some more value to existing thin post at least more than 500 words should be fine for the content. In my opinion, 1000 words for quality post is always the best. If you don’t want either delete or edit the post, you can use no index Meta tag to prevent these pages from indexing by the search engines.

  2. Back-links – In-bound links and Out-bound links

    a) In-bound links – A link point to your website or from other sources. This is very important if you have quality backlinks, your website will get better ranking, and if you have bad backlinks, Google Penguin may banned your website for the bad backlinks toward your website. The different between In and Out links is totally depend upon you, but for in-bound links you have no control. Your competitors may compete or spam you by creating backlinks from the bad reputed website. You have to responsible for your backlinks. If found any suspicious backlinks, you have to take action on it to prevent bad linking or get banned till you recover it.

    b) Out-bound links - A link point to another website or link to blog regardless of what location of your out-bound links. It could be in your comment, sidebar, or footer sections. You are responsible for each out-bound links exist on your website or blog. Make sure only links to those website are trustworthy or don’t have bad reputation on the web without having penalties by Google. If you are confused to track its reputation, just use the no follow tag attribute when link to such websites.

Really love your post! After finding out about the Google Panda 4.2 update, I was looking for a post about it here and glad that someone did it! And if you wanted to check your backlinks, you can use free backlink checkers such as: http://www.linkdiagnosis.com/ (Link diagnosis) ; https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/ (Open Site Explorer) ; http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ (Backlinkwatch: it is free but not so accurate) ; https://app.buzzsumo.com/research/top-content (Buzzsumo). and or https://monitorbacklinks.com/seo-tools/free-backlink-checker (Monitor Back links). Since my website is fairly new and only have a few, I know that I have good trusted backlinks, but for those that have more, might check it out just in case.

Great! This is really informative, John. Thanks for adding this value information here.

Can't trust those friggin' bamboo eaters, can we? Same goes for Google...

PPC > SEO (for me at least).

Hmm..I would think both are equally important. Both combined can be a powerful tool for high traffic. So far I still in SEO, the organic way.
As I know, PPC needs high budget to get high position. Of course, if I have budget. PPC can be considered.

SEO = Long term traffic, Free, Organic result based on quality content
PPC = Short term traffic, Paid, Ads result based on keywords

Great stuff Vivien!

Thanks VitaliyG, sharing this based on my understanding and hope this info can help others too.
