The Cost of Detailing Your Site
It seems to me that when it comes to building building your website it is like many other things in your life like a car or a house. Especially if you get if for free. You are going to want to detail it to your liking, to make it your own. This is where that is where it starts to become a potential money pit. I always say you don't get anything for free.
So let think of your site as a car for now. So some guy give you this car for free, GREAT. He is also going to teach you how to get it running for free. Which he does, but it needs more work to make it look and run better.
Now he can help you with that but you are going to have to use the garage and that is going to cost you a monthly or yearly rental fee, but you can use anything in the garage you want. Well that sound good so you take it. Now you are getting your car running pretty good and it time to start making it look good.
You sand it down and prime it, but when you are wet sanding you find bents that need filled. so you start looking around the garage and can't find any. Well why not ask the neighbor if he has some. well he doesn't but he know a guy how does. So now you go down to this fellows only to find out that what he could give you is not what you want, but he could sell you the right stuff.
Now it time to paint it. The garage is full of paint but it looks like someone has beet you to all the good colors. You run over to the neighbor again and he tell you of a place that he get free paint so off you go. When you arrive and look around there is a ton of color that you think know one would want and then you see through a door all the most beautiful colors and the man at the door tell you that they are for Car club members only.
You then decide you might as well redo the interior and start pulling it out. Get everything ready to be repaired or replaced. you find the carpet you need and put it in. Looks Great. Time for the upholstery, you guessed no match so you start asking around the neighborhood and get a lead. If you want to do it for free they will give you the material, the pattern, and tell you ( as if you should know what you are doing) how to put it together. Then thy say " we could do it for you for X amount of dollars"
Oh and during this whole process , god forgive you make a mistake. The time and run around you will go through just to fix the smallest mistake. You can always find help but it usually will lead you to someone wanting money. At least this has been me experience and why my car is still in primer with dents and no interior.
