What 6 years of Affiiliate Marketing with Wealthy Affiliate taught me

When I joined WA 6 years ago, I was looking for a good way into the online world.

Not a shortcut to easy money, but a path I could actually follow.

I did not just go through the lessons and move on .

I started documenting what I learned step by step on my WA blog.

Post by post, thought by thought, experiment by experiment.

If you scroll through my blog archive today you will not see a perfectly planned success story.

You will see a real journey in motion.

And that has turned out to be my biggest asset.

From learning in private to learning in public

In the beginning my blogposts were like personal notes

  • What I just learned
  • What confused me
  • What I wanted to try Next
  • Questions and experiences

I did not wait until I felt like an expert.

I jumped straight into it with broken english and lots of engagement and excitement.

I actually wrote while I was learning.

That did Two important things:

  1. It helped me understand the material better
  2. It created a visible timeline of my progress

Instead of saying "I have experience" I could point to years of documented practice .

My blog became my mirror

Some posts were optimistic. Some frustrated.Others were full of new ideas and experiences.

Looking back at my older entries I sometimes ask myself - who wrote that? Lol....

But I can clearly see how my thinking changed over time.

And so will yours if you just started at WA.

At first I focused mostly on learning the tools, tactics and programs.

Later my posts shifted toward more clarity, direction and building my own systems and assets.

But of course with my website as a base for all I did.

My WA blog did not only show what I learned from the training.

It shows me how I have grown as an affiliate and a digital creator or marketer.

I stopped chasing and started building

Early on I was easily tempted by every new opportunity. I wanted to learn it all.

You can actually see that in my older blog posts: lots of excitement, Lots of "This could be it".

But as my archive grew, a pattern became pretty obvious to me.

Everytime I jumped to something new, my progress reset.

Every time I documented, reflected and refined - My progress compounded.

That realization changed everything.

Instead of asking " what`s the next big thing?"

I started asking " What can I build on top of what I have?"

Documenting created Trust (and confidence)

By writing regularly about my journey, I built somethingpowerful : credibility.

I did not claim big results, but I showed consistent effort.

Think about this for a moment: Anyone can say they have been doing Affiliate marketing for years, but very few can show years of written timestamped progress.

So think about that everytime you write a blog post here at WA.

My blog became a proof of persistence, curiosity and willingness to learn.

And what was equally important - my blog made me decide to be confident and trust myself more.

When you feel stuck, you can scroll back and see:

I have actually come a long way.

That are my thoughts now when reading my blog archive.

The training at WA gave me a map. My own documenting made it real.

The lessons and the awesome community at WA gave me structure and understanding.

The real transformation happened when I applied what I learned and wrote about it in my own words.

That is where theory turned into practice.

Some of my first posts were about mindset, my websites, my first affiliate links and my first signs of traffic.

Others were about doubts and restarting after slow periods. Yes, we all have those...

Together they form a living blog about six years in the making here at WA.

My biggest lesson: Become a creator, not just a promoter

Reading through my own blog history, one lesson stands out above all the others.

Results did not start to grow until I stopped trying "to be an affiliate"

and I started creating.

  • A creator of helpful articles, posts and videos
  • ideas
  • systems
  • digital assets

Affiliate links then became a natural extension of the value I was already creating. Not the main Event.

Progress is built from small, honest entries

None of my individual blog posts changed everything, but together they did.

One reflection at a time, One lesson at a time, One documented step at a time

That slow, steady documentation turned into experience, clarity and direction.

If you read my earliest posts and then my latest ones side by side, you will see the difference immediately.

Not because I suddenly figured it all out, but because I kept going and kept writing.

In periods I was doing a lot offline behind the scenes and did not blog so much, but I always documented it somewhere.

If you start today, Start documenting

After six years, my suggestion is simple.

Do not wait until you feel ready. Just do it.

Write while you learn.

Use your WA blog as a lab, a diary and a workshop.

Because one day, when you llok back at your own archive, you will not just see posts.

You will see proof that you did not quit no matter what happened on the way.

And that, more than anything, is what turns training into transformation at WA.

There is no wasted time

Six years sounds long. Like a waste of time for some.

But I will tell you that every year taught me something

  • What overwhelms beginners
  • What motivates people to continue
  • What actually converts and what just looks good

Nothing was wasted because I chose to learn from each step to the best of my ability instead of starting over from zero every time.

Start small, but build something that is yours

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone starting today it would be this:

Do not wait until you know enough because you are afraid to do mistakes or be looked upon as a beginner or starting small. Just do it.

Build that website. Your own small corner of the internet.

One clear page. One helpful guide , one place where people can return to.

Everything starts with you and your tiny, empty space

Fill it with honest progress

After six years I am still learning, but now I know what actually matters.

Create clarity

Document your Journey

Build your own assets.

Help people first.

The rest follows.

Hope this served you well. If you read the whole article you are probably one of few.

Looking forward to the next 6 years at Wealthy Affiliate.

Thanks for sharing Hilde, and all of these concepts totally resonated with me and as I reflect on my journey these are all very much lessons that I have learned along the way.

One thing really resonated with me that you said, become a "creator" not a "promoter". Many people get into business and think it is all about selling, but at the end of the day you cannot just start-up and sell. It is the "creation" component that leads to you being able to get reach, you helping people, and you being able to build trust along the way. That is what will lead to success.

Thanks for sharing your journey with us, and I also look forward to the next 6 years and seeing what you accomplish during that time! :)

Thank you for your reflections on my post kyle. Yes, what you are saying here is exactly what I discovered a while nto my journey. But it is a process. Look forward to see how the industry and WA will evolve over the next 6 years too :)

Thanks for sharing this experience, Hilde. It means a lot to me as I'm now over a year old here as a paid member. Lots of learning, work, and possible success.

Yes, In the beginning it is easy to get distracted. We all do this. it is part of the process. Take one day at a time. Before you know it 6 years have passed and you can look back on everything you achieved. I suggest you document it.

Ah, thanks for the tips. Yes, I always catch a few moments and document them when possible. AI now summarizes chats at the end of the year, and that could remind us of events, people, places, and more, if we chat about them. That could be the new way of notetaking - chat.

Hi Hilde great to hear from you again. Yes when we use WA as that roadmap, we then have all the right directions to move forward and reach many goals.

Keep striving forward and have a great weekend as well and here's to another 6 years and more.
