This Can't Possibly Work, Can It?

So, I've been traveling through the training, expecting that at each new section I'm going to be writing another post to my site. I just finished the review portions, and I've been going back and adding links in the text to products that I'm discussing. Throughout all of it, I've had a heck of a pleasant time.

However - much of my content talks about the history, technique, and evolution of needle arts. That can't possibly make money - can it? I'm reading through your beautiful websites about affiliate marketing and the referral systems that you're using, and I'm feeling a little bit like a lone paper boat in an olympic size swimming pool.

Does this type of content really sell? Do people really move from, "I wonder where this came from" to purchasing items? I hope so.

I'm having so much fun writing, that whether or not I eventually make money - this is still a good exercise. However, is a niche like this actually lucrative? Do any of you focus on odd niches that don't really sell anything? Is this where I should invest my time here on WA?

I love sharing the information - it's making my heart happy, and I love to write. Mostly I'm just wondering if there is a place for me in this wide world of leaving your 9-5 job, or if I should focus more on a niche that seems to be profitable, like becoming an affiliate marketer for Wealthy Affiliate.

I'm not familiar with needle art but a quick look around the web shows it's quite popular... you definitely have an audience who is interested.

And I can imagine there are many angles. There is the art itself... and then there would be the therapeutic aspects of needle art. Again, I'm not familiar with it but I think it would promote mindfulness and relaxation.

The key to making any niche work is to understand what your audience wants. You can definitely add product links and as your audience grows you will get some sales from those.

Ad revenue is another way you can monetize as your audience grows.

But ultimately you want to find an angle that helps your audience solve a problem. To identify a specific "tribe". Your tribe could be people just getting started with needle art, it could be people who are seeking the therapeutic effects of needle art...

I'm not sure if there are also physical benefits as well? Like improving dexterity for people with arthritis as an example?

You can create your own specific identity within your niche and corner the market on that... but always with the mindset of helping people solve a problem.

Don't just think of the products people need or would like to have... but rather seek to understand "why" they are interested or have a passion for your niche in the first place... and what you can do to help them further explore that passion and get deeper enjoyment and meaning from it.

That might mean creating your own course, or becoming an affiliate for someone who has a course. Maybe there are templates you can create or bundle things as a starter kit...

Needle art for kids maybe? Parents are always looking for productive ways to engage their kids and give them an alternative to screen time.

Without knowing your niche I may be offering up some lame ideas... but you can always combine lame ideas to come up with something new and brilliant 😀

Thank you so much for your post. :) I was feeling a bit discouraged last night, but a new morning brings a fresh perspective. I think I will just keep writing, using affiliate links, and seeing what pops up as far as other ways to monetize. I love your ideas about reviewing kits or creating templates. Thanks for the encouragement! I'll keep right on plugging away :D

And it's always important to remember that our journey is a learning experience as well. The goal isn't to knock it out of the park on our first try 😀 It's to learn and develop new skill you can apply to any niche or audience. Everyone's business evolves over time and one day you'll back with all this knowledge and experience and it won't be about the thing you have (a website or social media following for example)... it'll be about the knowledge and and skills you've acquired.
