Uncanny sounds in the night cause a shiver

As, indolent, sleepy and heavy my head,

I suddenly joggle my husband to ascertain

What is that noise I perceived in my bed.

He is not enthralled that at 2 in the morning

He must rectify the mysterious cause.

But sweetly he rises upon his left elbow,

Flicks on the light switch – cohesion restored –

It’s the cat! She’s had kittens!
