What is the best plugin for filtering spam?
I've been a litte bit busy promoting articles of my site on social medias like Google+, Facebook, and Twitter. One of my article "The ways to avoid scam online" lately on page 8 on Google. My site is only 3 months old and I don't write a lot of articles yet for my site due to my daily job. Also I have to do a lot of readings before writing an article for collecting datas.
A week ago, suddenly I got more than 200 comments in one day. But unfortunately most of them are spam. So, I downloaded a plugin for filtering spam. It is WP-SpamShield. After activating this plugin I got no spam comments, even I got no comments at all for my site. The plugin had been filtering all comments as spam, even good comments. For this reason I've been deactivated the plugin and I got a lot of comments again on my site. It is more than 200 comments a day, which is unfortunately 2/3 of them are spam.
Now I'm filtering the spam manually which is really takes time and makes me so exhausted. Do you know how to filtering those spam or any good spam filter plugin?
Any advice or input will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

I had a very similar problem. Akismet is great but it did not stop a lot of certain type of spam. The ones that were getting through on my site were very long and basically a jumble of words.
I added Spam Free Wordpress and that has filtered all of the spam comments. Give it a try.
I like Antispam Bee it works very well for me. Akismet started wanting me to up-grade so I switched..

Hello Frank, I've activated Akismet for a couple of hours. If it's just like WP-SpamShield which filtering all comments inclusive the good comments, then I will try Antispam Bee.

I've activated Akismet one hour ago and now I don't see any new comment on my site. I hope Akismet is not like Wp-SpamShield that filtering even good comments. We'll see later Katie. Otherwise I will download Antispam Bee.

I use Akismet and some version of Captcha. Captcha is that plugin that requires you to prove you are human before you can post a comment. There are many versions of Captcha. Captcha and spambot keep playing tag. The spambot figures out how to beat a Captcha and the Captcha has to figure out how to counter the new spambot.
I've ever activated Captcha but I got a problem with firewall. I couldn't login to my own site. Till Kyle told me that Wealthy Affiliate hosting has a kind of security already. So we don't need to download any security plugin anymore, especially not a plugin that contains a firewall. Or perhaps I downloaded the wrong version of Captcha plugin?

Askimet is by far the best. Bar none. And it is a free download plugin. Be sure you download the latest version that is compatible with your WordPress theme.
Hello Marvin! Thus, most of you using Akismet. I think I really have to activate this plugin again. I have it already on my installed plugins but last time I've deactivated it due to slow loading of my site.

Perhaps I'm going to test it first Katie. I hope it will not slowing the loading of my site because that's what happened when I activated Askimet last time. But I will try every possibilty and every advice I get.

Hey Loes! I will try to activate Askimet again and downloading 'Control Comment Length Plugin" to filtering a very short comments because I got a lot of this kind of comments too. I hope this will work.

I've ever used Akismet but I thought it made my site loading slower. That' s why I deactivated it and my site has fast loading again.
Now I will try to activate it again and we'll see what happened.

Anyone specific .. i do not know, but other members suggested Akismet and otjers that works well
