Celebration Time
On both sides of the 49th Parallel we are getting ready to celebrate a national holiday. In Canada it is “Canada Day,” and our American neighbours “Independence Day.” Us Canadians will have a long weekend to enjoy family and friends and whatever festivities the Government of Canada has planned to bring the country together in celebration.
I have often wondered how do you celebrate a holiday when it falls in the middle of the week? You see I really look forward to a long weekend. It is the only time I really take away from my business and relax.
Both these celebrations are steeped in history but I also wonder how many people really appreciate the significance of July 1, in Canada and July 4, in the United States of America?
As you celebrate, whether it is for one day or a full weekend, be proud of who you are and how far as a country we have grown.
Have a good one.

Happy Canada Day, my friend.
Enjoy your nice long weekend.
We will celebrate Independence Day next weekend with our 3 boys and their families.
All the best,
Wendi
So, does that mean that Canada Day is celebrated the same weekend every year?
I don't have a 9 to 5, but I know many people are bummed out that July 4th falls on a Wednesday. Although I acknowledge the great opportunities the United States offer - there are people who barely speak English, yet they can own a business - I'm not patriotic if that makes any sense.
Enjoy your holiday, Harvey!
Not necessarily the same weekend, but every July 1. I also do not have a 9-5 gig. My business operates in the evenings 5:30 to 8:00 and Saturday and Sunday mornings.
I am with you Don, just put holiday behind it and you have my support. Have a great weekend.
I don’t know about Canada day but we British seem to love July 4th celebration. Anything the Americans do we want to do too. It makes me laugh as not so many people know their history. After all July 4th celebrates the day they kicked us British out.
It just appeals to my warped sense of humour.
Maybe Canada Day is about the same thing ?
With Grace and Gratitude

Lol, most of the world seems to want to emulate what Americans have made popular. Canada has never kicked out the United Kingdom, in fact good Queen Bess is still our sovereign. What it celebrates is when the then three provinces of Canada (Ontario), Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick joined together in 1867,and formed Canada.
