my first reaction would be then you have a bit of a problem ... because to blog you have to want and not necessarily be able to write , it is useful if you can write a little or at least make an attempt .

I really didn't like writing in the past and also had quite a hard time writing a story or dictation at school which is quite strange myself because I was just good at Dutch (for those who don't know me Dutch is my mother tongue and English is my second language )

In general, the Dutch language is considered to be exceptionally difficult to learn. Especially the pronunciation and grammar can be pure horror.

Then the problem comes again that what I write in Dutch is translated into English and then suddenly you have a completely different sentence structure and a sentence runs very differently , but no matter how stupid it sounds somewhere it seems better .

Fortunately, I have been working online for a long time now and I also notice that I find writing more and more fun and that the topics come easier.

so for everyone who comes in new here and thinks yes how am I going to do this and why should I teach myself to write it helps if you write about things that appeal to you, things that you feel good about and that you have knowledge about, but even if you write about a subject that you know less or little about, you can still write a great blog.

google is a powerful knowledge base for information use it and if necessary look up how people read on the internet , research how a message or a post is viewed that can also help you in writing .

Like you, I'm Dutch and find it hard at times to write in English. But you're right, it is fun to write and learn.
I have the Grammarly and Wordtune extensions in Chrome and they help me a lot.
Wordtune was a tip from Diana, only last week I believe. It's great!

The fun part and to learn and understand English more than I already do makes it more and more joyful. Writing in English is not the main problem. I speak and read a lot in English, and I also use both extensions for the grammar. My Dutch grammar is no problem but in English the sentence is different. And just translate true Google is not always the best.

No, GTranslate is a pain at times :)

Yep it is

Hi Hanneke!

For many, churning out 100's or 1000's of words a day can be quite an ordeal. So much so, that many give up before they have really even begun.

There are other avenues available, such as videos, recording speech and of course outsourcing.

Research is the most important factor for me though, maybe we don't write particularly well, but with the right research, we will be able to learn whatever we want to, and as long as we are providing the best answer possible for our audience, we have no need to be a Shakespeare or Dickens!

That's right, I think I probably would have done that 10 years ago, but after I opened my webshop in 2013, blogging became more something I had to get into and delve into, that also made it more fun for me. went to find it but I think that there is still quite a percentage who have not studied it and who drop out because they find it too difficult takes too much time or simply do not want to put the time and effort into it

What a fantastic post! You put it there; you have to like to write to have a blog website; which is what it requires. You write well; I see no problem whatsoever with that. I am surprised though; I would not have suspected it. Well, for someone who doesn't like to write, it does seem you are picking up the skill; and I would guess you do like it much more. I do too, especially when I know what I'm doing and retire my mistakes to a chamber somewhere in the dark. I've had my times with it. Danish is a really odd language as well. I had to scratch my head a few times when my parents/grandmother spoke in Danish at the dinner table when I was a child. They went back years ago and passed, but I do have fond memories of Danish cheese; I still plug my nose thinking about it.

I enjoyed the post! Thank you. Enjoy your day. 👍

Oh, and I LOVE double-salt licorice too; a real Dane here! :)

i like the double-salt licorice too when i was young we had the three double salt licorice also but that is no longer sold because of health issues.

I've found that if you treat writing a post like sharing information with a good friend, that makes it easier. If your friend asked you a specific question on a topic, how would you answer them so that it's easy for them to understand and react based on your answer?

It does especially help if you really know your subject. It's very difficult if it's a book report because you don't deeply know your topic. That's why, especially for your first site, it's critical to choose a topic that you know and love while you get used to the process of blogging.

I agree wholeheartedly! I think it has helped me personally to hone my skills, and a tip or two from you doesn't hurt! In fact, it really helped! See how people stick together here at WA, just like Simone said. We are family even if we're apart we make such great friendships here.

All aboard everyone.... the train is leaving for the future if you can chance the ride! :)

Jeannine thats a great way to approach it.. thank you

I agree with you luckily I did and after a few years I have also gotten used to writing and it feels more and more like a good jacket that will fit better and better but certainly in the beginning I found it quite difficult. but that trick indeed to write as if you're talking to someone you know helps

Yes as someone new to this it can seem daunting.. this is a great tip!

Great post HanneKe and you are correct, but there are other mediums as well as audio and video

That is indeed true, but of course there are also people who, for example, stumble over technology in that regard or find it too much hassle, I like to try things out but not everyone is like that

I'm not the You Tube type unless I am commenting. Video will not work for me; I like more behind the scenes; always have. To each their own. I agree with that. :)

Just pointing out there is always a Plan B

i understand that and i always look for a Plan B if Plan A is'nt working for me.
