Three months at Wealthy Affiliate.

As we're nearing Christmas and the new year, I'm also finishing up another level of the courses here at Wealthy Affiliate and taking a moment to reflect on things.

I first joined up as a free member just to see what it was all about really. I had just spent several months attempting to start a business of a very different kind but it was going nowhere. What really got me about this endeavor (aside from the enormous amount of time and hard work that was wasted on it) was that there was an element of luck involved in it that I couldn't do anything about. My ability to succeed in that business depended too much on factors outside my control.

Once I realized that, I knew I should look elsewhere for ways to generate additional income.

That's when I came across Wealthy Affiliate. I had no idea what affiliate marketing was all about but I'd heard of the term. And after checking out what people had to say about the site just to make sure it wasn't a scam (it isn't), I decided to give it a go. And after just a few days, I was so impressed by what I'd seen, that I decided to go for the annual premier membership option.

Initially, my progress was slow as I just did a tiny bit at a time. I was still trying to get that other business off the ground as I didn't want to waste all the effort I'd poured into it. My job was keeping me busy too. And I had started work on a new novel (writing is a passion of mine). So I was spreading myself a bit thin. Then earlier this month, I made the decision to finally stop getting that other business started. As well as giving me a great boost to my morale, it freed me up to put more effort into Wealthy Affiliate.

And now I've really got into it. I had decided early on that my niche would be writing and I realize now that Wealthy Affiliate is an excellent resource for an author. I have a number of self-published books and in the past, I had tried to promote them online with a blog to get myself noticed. I'd always thought, in a Field of Dreams type way, that if I built the content, my readership would come. And maybe that's how it worked once. But it doesn't work that way any more.

Now I realize that all the time I tried promoting my work in the past, I didn't know how to play the game. But thanks to Wealthy Affiliate, that’s changing.

It took me a while to see the results with my new site and I've still got a lot of work to do but now I can see that there are things that I can do, within my control, that can get my content noticed.

And that's the really exciting part about this all. It's what separates this course from what I was doing earlier this year. My ability to succeed in this is within my control. The things that Kyle and the senior members of Wealthy Affiliate say will happen do actually happen. Your site matures another month? It gets more trust from Google. Comment on someone else's site? You'll get comments on yours. Submit a site map? Sign up for Google Analytics? Post some of your blog content on Google+? It all works.

It's fantastic. I'm in the game again, getting my content out there to readers. And the HUGE difference is that now I know how the game is played. And I would never have known that without Wealthy Affiliate.

So, I'd like to give a big thank you to everyone here at Wealthy Affiliate and I would like to encourage newer members to stay with it. Things take a little while to get started. You won't see your site ranking for the keywords straightaway. Not even with the low competition keywords. But stay with it. Follow the lessons and you'll see that what's supposed to happen does actually happen.

I’m still only a little way into the various courses that are available here but so far, so good! And I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.
