This appeared on my laptop today while I was writing content...

Below is a small snippet of the article:

John Mueller Said Google Mobile First Index Will Exclude All Desktop Content

Google’s John Mueller provided new information about the new Mobile First Index. The big news is that desktop only sites will be completely dropped from the index, gone. Additionally, there are bugs related to m-dot sites and affirmed that the date for switching over to a mobile index is firm and not likely to change.

There is another statement that Muller made that says: "it was a huge internal undertaking that has resulted in some bugs that will not be fixed."

Bugs that will not be fixed?

What's going on here?

Should we be concerned about this???

Here is the link to the entire article:

https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-mobile-index-news...

Could someone here explain exactly what this means for myself and other Wealthy Affiliate members moving forward...

It sounds as if Google is indexing mobile content only starting in March 2021...

They are completely abandoning desktop site content from getting indexed.

I would appreciate imput from WA members...

Thanks,

Howard

It's absolutely amazing to me how 1 guy, 1 company, gets to make decisions that affect hundreds of millions of online business owners.

I'm going to attempt to explain whats going on although I'm far from being the guy to try to do this:

Here it goes:

Apparently, there are hundreds of millions of people in the world who do not own a laptop or a desktop.

So what Google has decided to do is to give people in poor countries the same access to content as people in wealthier countries.

Nobody is going to say it like I just did, but basically, Google is trying to "level the playing field".

Everything is explained here in this link from...wait for it...GOOGLE!

Mobile-First Indexing Best Practices:

https://developers.google.com/search/mobile-sites/mobile-first-indexing

Here's the bottom line:

1) This is where your WordPress theme is super-critical!

If you have a WordPress theme that automatically optimizes your content for mobile then understand what I'm about to say:

You Will Be Just FINE!

You Do Not Need To Worry...

2) Going forward, when you finish a piece of content, check how your content displays on your mobile device FIRST...

From this point forward always have the following rule:

Mobile FIRST, Desktop Second...

It's mobile-first from now on with Google...Period

3) I would check all of my past content to see how it shows up on a smartphone.

4) Depending on how it appears, you may have to make some very necessary adjustments to tho your post is structured.

There are some very important details in this Google post that you MUST read.

Please click on the link to Google and read this post!

https://developers.google.com/search/mobile-sites/mobile-first-indexing

Unfortunately, my post didn't get much traction, but to the few of you who read this, consider yourself better prepared to make any necessary adjustments moving forward...

Thanks For Reading,

Howard

PS:

Oh...and one more thing:

There's a line in the song "The Ghost Of Tom Joad" by Rage Against the Machine that says:

"Welcome To The New World Order..."

It all becomes clear, thank you.

You are more than welcome, Linda!

Ok, Howard, I read this article too. I understand not everything I must confess. I will now wait and see what happens. On my websites I stick to a certain layout for all my posts and adds are only in the sidebar and footer. I hope for the best.

I think as Howard has said in the comment section, theme choice will be important. Having themes that are 'mobile-friendly'.
Reading the article, it stipulates that most of the current indexing is done with a 'smartphone Googlebot'.
It's only content that is 'not accessible' on a mobile phone that will get ignored.
So, we have to keep that in mind when we are creating content.
One thing we can do is when we publish, see how our content displays on a mobile phone.
I'm sure that someone with a better understanding of what is or isn't accessible via mobile, will step up and let us know.

Great Reply, Twack!

Looks like I had to figure this out myself...Please read the reply I recently posted...I think it will clear things up...

Thanks,
Howard

I hope Generate Press is mobile friendly then!😲

You can always run individual posts through the 'mobile friendly checker' in Google search console.
I would imagine, seeing how popular Generate Press is, that it will be mobile optimised.

Thanks Howard, I've read your comment and it pretty much confirms how I was reading your post and the article.
Unfortunately there will be some who add two and two together and make five, as that's more melodramatic, which in turn makes others worry unnecessarily.

I hope so! I might have to try that out! Thanks for this!

I use Generate Press - It's very mobile friendly.

If you are using Generate Press then you should be OK...

Thanks, Twack...Another stellar reply...

"Whatever you want it to be..."

That's GREAT to know, I Do! Thanks, Howard!

Jeff

Always welcome Jeff.

Always a pleasure.

Please give a treat to the 2 Pilot Dogs!! LOL!

Good Morning Howard,

Oh, dear me, now it is getting complicated and I do not understand most of what is said in the article. I know that my sites are mobile friendly, but suppose that will not be enough? I do hope Kyle or Carson will chime in to explain well what this is all about.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Hello laparra1,

Sorry, Howard, but I did read the article, but I often do not understand the technical terminology. What I did understand is that is sounds rather grim and one individual decides over what billions of website owners are supposed to do,. That is dictatorship.

All the best,

Taetske

IMHO, Howard, Google NEEDS to be broken up (as do all of the other tech Giants! I prefer desktops and do NOT want to change, and some person who thinks they are God should not taken it upon themselves to dictate how everyone should operate! Internet FREEDOM needs to return!

Jeff

Hello JeffreyBrown,

I don't know who this "John Mueller" guy is from Google, but I think it's time for the 2 Pilot Dogs to don their goggles and pay this guy a not so friendly visit.

It's absolutely amazing to me how 1 guy, 1 company, gets to make decisions that affect hundreds of millions of online business owners.

Thanks for reading, JeffreyBrown!

You are so very right, Howard! Not only that, it's also scary when you think about it! I might have to also enlist the help of another goggle Dog aviator--SNOOPY! 🙄

Waiting to see.
