Welcome to the last blog of the Procrastination Battle series! Here's a couple more suggestions that may help you in your fight!

19) The Pomodoro Technique

This is a time-blocking system developed by Francesco Cirillo in the 1980s. In his studies, Francesco found that humans could focus only for short periods of time before they were distracted. So, he worked out a system where you work in short sprints and took breaks along the way. He named his technique after a kitchen timer that looked like a tomato. Here is how this would work:

* Choose a task
* Set a timer for 25 minutes
* Work for 25 minutes without giving in to any distractions
* Take a five minute break by getting up and walking around
* Work for another 25 minutes
* After the fourth 25 minute time block, take a 15 to 30 minute break

By using this method, the quality of your work will be much better because you are keeping your mind fresh and focused. This way your concentration won't dwindle and distractions set in.

20) Draw a Venn Diagram

I got this from GE CMO Beth Comstock. I'm sure you remember the Venn Diagram from school. The overlapping circles that have the shaded areas where they overlap. In this case, you draw three circles; one for what you love to do, one for what you have to do and one for what you hate to do. Your creative challenge will be finding the intersection of what you love to do and what you hate to do. Then turn the what you hate to do into something that you can tolerate. (or if you can, outsource it)

Out of these 20 ways to fight procrastination, I'm sure you can find a few that will work for you and help in the ongoing battle. And, it IS a battle. Procrastination usually partners up with our friend from my earlier blog, Sid, (my pet name for Self-Doubt) to undermine your work.

Keep the list close by to reference when needed and you'll find your productivity improving and that "putting-off" syndrome diminishing.

As always, I thank you for reading my scribblings and hope in some way they provide value for you.

Until next time...Take Action!

I love your post Grant. I figured out this about myself years ago, hence i always work in what I call 'Spurts'. Online marketing , and especially WA is a great place to do this. You can open up many windows and go from writing an article for your website , to greeting people, talking on chat, building your site in wordpress etc., etc., and in between you can go for a walk and have a coffee, its a great life. It truly is!

Procrastination and laziness is an epidemic common to those who are losers and blame the world for their inaction. The technique is an interesting solution now being offered for those who have issues on taking actions consistently. In honesty, I am also faced with procrastination many times before.
