Building An Email List

Hello, Hello, Hello!

Last blog, we talked about building your audience. We also found you can build an audience through an email list or social media. Let's look a little more into this.

Like I said, your email list is gold. If you have a good solid email list of people who trust in you they'll buy from you before they buy from someone else. I've even had a few contact me before buying a software to make sure I wasn't an affiliate for it before they bought! This is your goal. To build a large list of trusting people that are in your niche.

I have friends in the online marketing world that can come up with funds in a days time because of the magnitude of their email list. Again, the email list is your goal. At that point, it's almost like cash on demand. As long as you've provided value, offered good product and been honest and transparent in the past with your audience.

The first step I took to build my list was with my website. Kyle suggests a free plug-in, SumoMe, that you can plug into your website that will collect email addresses for you and move them onto your list. I started out with SumoMe, mainly because it's free. I'm now using Aweber. There are various ways you can set them up. You can have them pop up on the screen within a certain amount of time. Or you can have them not pop up until the visitor is leaving with a message such as "Wait! You forgot your ...." Or you can have them stationary in your side bar. I have them set up various ways, depending on the page of the website.

At first, I just had the question on my list builder, "Would you like to receive emails with tips and suggested products? Leave your email below". It did ok, but not great. Another was "Would you like to be notified when a new blog is published? Again, it did ok, but not great.

The thing you want to do is offer something more for free. Create an eBook that is relevant with your website, or the page of your website you're collecting the email address. This takes us back to an earlier blog on value. You must create value first for your future customer, be it an eBook, actual physical product, membership, etc. Believe me, it will pay off down the road.

For example, on my review page for Aweber, the email marketing service, I have a pop up, (which i generally set to come up as they leave. That way they're not interrupted while reading the review) (And like I said, this is not always the case) that offers an eBook on how to write good emails that sell. And they get 45 email templates along with it to use. All this is free, of course, and to get it they just leave their email address.

I started having much better results. I was offering something that had true value and they could surely use. And there was no selling involved. Just a free offer in return for an email address.

So, this is a good start for your email list. If you haven't done so yet, look up the free plug-in SumoMe, in the back office of your website and install it. They have good prompts and it's easy. If you do have any problems, you can message me here and I'll be glad to help.

Ultimately, just having a list will do nothing for you. You have to implement various procedures to make that list profitable for you. I'll get into that down the road for you, but, next time we'll talk about your email list and social media.

Get to work!

To Your Success,

Grant

Thanks for sharing, Grant.

Thank you for your blog post Grant, it's always interesting to hear what works for people in the online marketing world. I have always used Aweber, I have been told that Get Response is easier to use, so I have never tried anything else. I would be interesting to hear what people's favourite auto responder is.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Roy

The biggest problem is finding an affiliate friendly email marketing service. A lot of them are not and are very, very picky on what is getting sent out. This is mainly because they use one SMTP to deliver their emails. So, say, Convert Kit uses Mailgun as their SMTP. Every customer shares a single Mailgun account that is owned and operated by ConvertKit. So, of course they're paranoid of having that account shut down. One spammy customer could effect the email deliverability rates of ALL ConvertKit customers. All of the email marketing services are the same in this respect. Aweber is one of the more affiliate friendly. I've heard some things not so with Get Response, but I know those that are happy with them.

Thank you very much for your informative answer Grant. I didn't actually know this, so this is very helpful indeed. It looks like I am using the right autoresponder, which is good news.

Wishing you a very good day and I really appreciate your help.

Roy
