How Do I Decide on a Niche?

Well, I'll tell you what I chose, and more importantly, how I arrived at it. Maybe that will help you figure out a good niche.

I was not at all sure what niche I wanted to start a site around.

But following somebody's advice, I decided to write out all the things I was interested in on a blank sheet of paper. It came to about 30 items.

But the niche I chose came from the very last two things I wrote down. I wrote 'travel' then I think I wrote 'skydiving.' That's when it hit me, I will choose "Adventure Travel" as my niche! I like travel and have done a lot of it, but combining it with adventurous activities sounded great, even though I haven't done much of it.

But I got to tell you how I got there, for it to be most helpful to you.

I got here via reading Nathaniell's blog, OneMoreCupof-Coffee. It is a review of all kinds of 'internet business offers' and 'make money online' things. I was reading a review of "Deadbeat Affiliate Marketing" (sounds good, right?) and finally came to the conclusion that I should really get involved at Wealthy Affiliate, instead of buying and trying another one of those $7 WSOs (with multiple OTO and upsells).

BUT, the main thing that got me to try WA was this comment at the bottom of one of Nathaniell's reviews...

He said, "Find something that you are passionate about to make a site around, or at least something that you would enjoy researching."

It was that last phrase that got me!!

I wasn't passionate about writing about any of the 28 things I wrote down (things like racquetball, reading, coffee, the Bible, etc). Those are just things I know, like and do. But I couldn't see making a site about any of them. But with the thought "or something you would at least enjoy doing research about" in my mind, I thought, Aha! I don't really know much about Adventure Travel, but I sure would enjoy learning about it, and I have!

I have learned about it as I researched keywords and did some research to write my first articles. So, if you're having trouble choosing a niche, imagine something you'd like to research, learn more about, and write about.
