One Year Update
I got my one year badge this morning when I logged in so I figured I should commemorate it with a post.
It made me think back to where I was this time last year. I had no website and had no idea what affiliate marketing really was.
I had stumbled on Wealthy Affiliate just before I left for vacation last August and couldn't stop thinking about it the whole time I was there.
I kept checking and reading reviews of it on my phone during that week of vacation trying to figure out if it was a scam.
I had been led down the wrong road in the past when it came to making money online and surely wasn't going to do it again.
Review after review of Wealthy Affiliate assured me that it was the real deal.
The first thing I did when I came back from vacation last year was sign up for Wealthy Affiliate. I still remember the excitement I felt (and still feel) as I go through the training and realize that I am finally building a business online.
Over the past year I have been able to complete 69 published posts totaling over 113,000 words. I know that others have been able to do far more, but I've done this while working about 50 hours a week at my full-time job so I'm (somewhat) happy with it.
I also have over 850 approved comments which are mostly from WA members so I couldn't have done it without you guys!
I've made a little money and got a fair amount of sales. More than enough to convince me that affiliate marketing works and keep me pushing even harder.
There was a fair amount of frustration along the way, but there has been far more joy. I discovered my true love for writing thanks to this platform.
It's funny. As I go through all the posts I did, I can still remember the time of the year it was or how I felt while doing it, particularly with the earlier posts that I did.
While I still have a far way to go, I have gradually improved with each post that I've written. My pages views are going up each week which is exciting.
I also see many areas in which I can improve. While I completed the WA training, I have not gone through much of the other additional training, like the great ones Jay gives.
I usually only have time to create a post and have made that my priority. Going forward over the next year, I plan to heavily invest my time in training and the other features of this site while continuing to write content.
I can usually write a post much faster than I used to so that's helpful. I also have limited the amount of extra hours I work at my day job to ensure that I can make the time to continue building my blog and business.
Since I am usually in and out on Wealthy Affiliate, I don't often get the chance to interact with too many of you guys, but I plan to change that as well over the next year and get more involved in the community.
Just know that I do read many of your posts and am always grateful and motivated by them. I am so happy to have found such a great community.
I was afraid that I would fall off with consistency as the year went on, but it didn't happen. Life got busy at times, but I still got that post in.
WA is now one of the primary focuses in my life and I'm glad.
Thank you so much Kyle, Carson and everyone else at WA.
To your success,
Dan
