My World Just Crumbled Before Me!

PLEASE BACK UP YOUR WEBSITES

I am a little distressed right now as

I write this post. Since I joined Wealthy Affiliate as a premium member, I have been working hard to build my site.

I would take training, implement a task and make some progress. I had gone as far as 5 pages with 13 posts and a total of 140 comments on the content I put up.

Needless to say, I have been practically using Kyle's advice to write from the hip. I am glad that even though I am not a perfect writer and English language being my second language, I had been making so much progress.

I have received immeasurable help from most of you by way of comments to my posts, words of encouragement, advice on post or graphics on my website and even on technical aspects of the website.

I have also met friends and formed a bond here within Wealthy Affiliate and we drive each other to make sure we are accountable to our efforts as we build our respective businesses. Each member of the group has to update other members daily on any progress they have made on their site. We pledged to take daily action building our sites.

In creating my website content, I would have posts that I wrote naturally and from the top of my head with a little bit of research and some that I would research for days on end to come up with quality content.

So I was happy and sailing. I am still happy though. What I am about to tell you is heart wrenching for me at least.

I was taking some training on a theme that I really love and will be my base theme for many of my sites I will be creating in the future.

In that training, they recommended resetting my WordPress for the plugin to work with little or no conflicts.

It never occurred to me that by so doing, I was also getting rid of all the content that I have worked so hard to create. Unfortunately in the training they did not recommend backing up my site before performing that action.

So I lost all my content.

Sadly.

No amount of weeping, wailing or mourning will stop me.Being the smart guy that I think I am, I immediately send a restore request to WA support. Unfortunately, their system had also run a backup during the time my content was deleted.

WA support is fast and great. Within 4 minutes, they had responded to my request.Unfortunately, they could not help me with this request because of the backup that ran on their servers.

So dear WAs, I have learnt an expensive lesson. Backup, BackuUp, Backup.

Find a few links below, to the training on how to do so:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-back-up-your-wordpress-site-using-tools-export

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/backup-wordpress-to-dropbox-tutorial

I just thought my experience can serve someone from grief, especially those that are just starting.

In the meantime, I got to go back to work. Going through the training. After that, I will get busy "re-contentizing" my website. "That which does not kill you, makes you stronger". That is how I feel right now.

To Our Success.

Have a great day.

Aww that is a shame, before I update anything I back it up .. it is good to remind us about this to thank you hope it will all come back together for you soon

I learned it's the smart way of doing business. "Once beaten, twice shy" so goes the saying.

Thank you.

Tich

So long as you have learned harsh as it is you will not be caught out again, best of luck to you

You said it well

Tich

Tich all is not lost.

Please do this ASAP.

Go to google and search the following:
site:stopinternetscam.com

Google has indexed 30+ pages, if you check the cache version of the page you'll be able to copy the old content.

See screenshot: http://take.ms/eSJP5

and this one: http://take.ms/7kl1T

But hurry before Google updates.

Sounds great. I will do so now.

Thanks Welshy.

Welshy

You are the biggest saviour of the day. I got all my content from the cached pages.

I will forever be grateful for your advice.

Tich

No problem Tich, I'm glad I could offer some advice that will partly help you get back on track here.
Don't forget to save the images too, if you plan on using them again.
You can also do this via the Google search and switch over to the images tab.

You will rebound! Wishing you MASSIVE success!

Stephon

You are the man Stephon.

Thank you for your well wishes.

I'm so sorry to hear about it! Let me know if there is something I can do to help. Perhaps you need help with comments on your site when it's up and running again.

Thank you for the links you provided. Have to look at them right away. I have saved what I could on Word dokuments, but it seems there are better ways to do backup.

Marie

I will sure be asking for some help and thanks for offering your help. I never stop to wonder how remarkably people from this community truly are.
Kyle's dirty method is pretty simple and easy to do. But I am trying to figure how I can do this with Dropbox. I will gladly share any new learnings.

Tich

Dang, so sorry to hear this! Thank you for the reminder to backup, we don't ever seem to do that often enough. I'm guilty!

Thanks Michelle.

A very hard lesson to have learned and thanks for sharing

You are welcome.

Tich

You bet.

Tich

sorry to hear that

Rufat

Thank you.

I am REALLY sorry that this happened. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I've ran into some minor problems in the past and so I do back up my sites. But I also write my content on a SEPARATE word processing program and then I paste it onto WP. Then I take those word doc files and back them up into dropbox as well as an external hard drive. Again, I am very sorry for your loss.

Having said that, I had this crazy experience in the past of finding my deleted post STILL floating around online. You might want to google (and yahoo and Bing) your own stuff and you just might find your deleted files still floating out there. If so, you could copy and paste. I hope you find them. It's a long shot but it might be worthwhile. I found a lot of my deleted files.

Pastor Tae, I had no idea it could still be floating around online. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Pastor Tae.

That is what I was doing and I found one so far and this is some great consolation.

Tich

keep searching!!!!! I found all kinds of deleted stuff of mine. That's great news

yeah, I had no idea either until one day a woman contacted me from the other side of country was greatly impacted by my post....come to find out it was a deleted post!

I could be wrong, but if it's indexed, it's online. It's deleted on YOUR end, but it's NOT deleted in cyberspace.

I know but's it's just that clicking on the links on cyberspace will initiate a redirect to my site which will surely be greeted by a 404.

But I believe I will get some not all.

Once again thank you.

Tich

good to know that all is not lost. We are cheering you on

OUCH!!! Thanks for the timely reminder, and wishing you a speedy recovery, dude!

Thank you. I definitely need to recover. The horizon always looks bright and can't turn back now.
