When initiating a new website I must be missing out on some instruction, as I always end up with my site being posted and I have to use a static front page
Yeah, you can do this. To do this go to "appearance - customize - static front page" and you can have your home page as a blog roll instead of a static page.
Hmmm, I'm not sure then :/ It should change your main page to a posts page. Not sure why it's not working for you. Maybe it's a bug or a glitch in your wordpress theme, also I know this sounds stupid and simple enough, but make sure you save after you've changed to posts.
Thank you, I'll find out one day. Running it with a static page instead. I'll have a look into the post at some later day.

Can I change my static front page to post?

goldarcher: It kind of depends on what you want. WA through WP sets the website up with a lot of default settings. If you want to change the way it is responding to you, change, experiment, and refine to get what you want. There are very few settings that you can not change back (probably none) if you do not like the results. Then if you get into a very tight spot ask the WA community for help. You would be surprised at how much our compadres know about this stuff. DAN
Yes I'm finding out, that WP has it's own way of doing things. I have always been writing my own html, css and so on, but I noticed the other day, that there is a plugin, that can help. I have to find again. I like to do things my way. Sounds like a song I know .. ha ha
