Finally Caught Up

It's been a little over a week since I last wrote. As many of you know, Wifey and I went to a small coastal community where her mother lives. It's been almost a year since we saw her last. A great time was had by all.

I brought my laptop with me to be able to check in with the community while away, but I chose not too. We had such a good time, family and old friends and just staying busy. We got home Sunday afternoon, unpacked and unwound.

I started back to work Monday morning and have been playing catch up all week. Late last night I finally got caught up. So many friends here and so many great blogs to read and reply was a little overwhelming, but I managed.

In between time spent playing catch up and doing some much needed homework on a new venture, I did find the time to write a bit in my book projects. I'm half way through a 30 day writing challenge, thank you Patha, and I'm happy to announce that I will complete the challenge a little ahead of schedule.

The road between our home and Wifey's mothers' takes through Donner Pass. There's a place we stop at to stretch and take a comfort break. It's beautiful in summer and stunning in winter when snow accumulations can reach as high as 30 feet. Here's a couple of pics.

Once we arrived, we spent time with family before going for a walk to the pier, it was rather cool, breezy and overcast, about 65 degrees, but it was a pleasant break from the heat of the desert. Sad to say that I completely forgot to get some pics, but here is one from a visit last year.

Moms next door neighbor is a beekeeper. The hive split while we were there and caused quite a commotion. Within a half hour, the new queen/queens settled on the fence and her followers settled around her in a protective manner.

I've got some video of the whole affair which I'll be posting to YT in a day or two as soon as I get it sorted out. I'll also post a link to my channel on my follow me section of my profile.

The neighbor called a professional bee removal service and he took care of the problem. I filmed a bit of his work. It was interesting to watch how he calmly vacuumed the bee's with a bee-vac. The guy told me would start a new hive with these little guys and sell the new hive to one of his customers. Side note: no one was stung or hurt during this swarm and it's removal.

When the bee guy arrived, I asked his permission to film him and give him a bump on YT. A new connection was made. Not bad for a vacation. Never know when, where or how opportunity will strike.

Take care my friends.

Sounds like your break was just what evrery one needed. I look forward to seeing the video(s). Those bees and the whole way they 'form' looks incredible.

I saw the swarm in the first few minutes. From the initial swarm to forming up on the fence was about 30 minutes. the bee guy showed up half an hour later. Quite a crowd turned out to watch, all were wearing masks. I was in the thick of it naturally, Sometimes I forget to bring my common sense, but my spidey sense told me there wasn't any real danger. look for my link in my profile tomorrow or the next day, the vis will be up by then

Greg

Quite the experience. I shall look for the link.

Awesome, Greg! I can't wait to see it, and your images are awesome in this post! You say you are now caught up, but do we really ever truly get caught up?

For me, I think not! 🤪

Jeff

I agree Jeff, if you ever did get caught up, what you have to occupy your time with? Thanks for dropping in my friend.

Greg

Exactly, Greg! 😎👍

Greg,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and looking at all your wonderful photos.

In fact, I think it's given me the "itch" to travel again and visit some of these idyllic places (I can't wait til travel ideas change from a wish to a reality again).

I'm guessing you feel refreshed and recharged after a few days away, it's a fantastic feeling.

Also, so glad to hear that the "challenge" is ahead of schedule, so I believe we'll have to set another, more sterner one, to follow up.

A great post my friend.

Task Master. haha. Take the step Partha, go somewhere, anywhere, even if its close. Getting out of Dodge, as we say, was wonderful food for the soul. I'm heading out again at the end of the month. It is important to be wary, take precautions and wear a mask. People aren't the enemy, the bug is. Before this all hit, I had planned for a return to Europe later this fall. So much for that idea. The trip is still on the list. I will tell you this, it was interesting to see the differences in behavior from one state to another.

Thanks for dropping in my friend, I appreciate it.

She's as sweet as Tupelo honey. Let it bee, let it bee.

Haha, let it bee, good one Neil. Thanks for dropping in, I appreciate it.
