Discover YOUR Best Way of Communicating With Your Audience

Hey guys,

Thought i'd share a short blog on communication and really knuckling down on your most comfortable way of communicating with your audience. After listening to Michael Stelzner's Social Media Marketing podcast episode on the topic; "Becoming A Blogger: Do You Have What It Takes?", there was one subject in particular that was mentioned and I just totally agree with it and felt I could relate to. The comment from his guest, Stanford Smith known for being a big player in the blogging industry, was that everybody have different ways of engaging with their audience that they are most comfortable with; whether it's Audio (Podcasting), Visual (Youtube, Video Marketing) or Writing (Blogging).

Now some may follow where the majority of the crowd are heading whether it be their best area or not, just because they see results from others and given the century we are today apart of with everything going digital, people assume that visual / video marketing is the way forward and that it's something we should all be doing -- which is not always the case although I do kind of agree. But what a lot of people are blinded to, is the fact that there is also still 1000s of other successors that have huge success in the writing / blogging industry and where they produce their main source of exposure.

I even know of some successful bloggers that don't even spend money on advertising because they physically do not need to! Also in the SMM podcast episode with Stanford Smith, he said: "my advertising is blogging. When i do a blog post, thats my advert." - because he literally has endless amounts of traffic to his website frequently due to his huge following from his blog page and his reach on each post is usually circa 100,000+ every month!

So it is really all about discovering what suits you best and going with that niche and mastering it. You have to be controversial within your messages whether its in text, video or audio. Something to attract your audience and engage them. Keep them wanting more..

For example, if you were at a bar drinking with your friend - would you speak to them as if you were sitting in a board room? Of course not, so why speak that way in a blog?! Make it fun, easy to read, listen or watch and keep at the viewers best interest -- no one likes formal!

If you like the sound of your own voice and can quite happily hold a good conversation, then maybe podcasting is for you. If you find it easy to be in front of a camera and use body language skills with your speaking to make it more interacting for a viewer, then maybe video marketing is for you. A lot of people may feel uncomfortable or just generally struggle with interacting via audio or video, but can be amazing at writing - so it's really just about discovering which niche you feel you have your best strength in, and crush it that niche.

Don't ever think that by spending your main focus on a specific niche like blogging for instance, that you are losing out in others like podcasting and video marketing -- you can always come back to those once you have mastered one particular field. The last thing you want to do is spread yourself too thin. Don't try and grow too quickly in every area.

Build up your audience in one category and become successful within that field so it becomes a lot easier, then inform your audience you are going to be starting a podcast channel or youtube channel so you already have a crowd at the ready to follow you.

You don't want too many eggs in one basket!

This was hugely inspiring and helpful. I'm definitely more of a writing guy - pretty awkward in conversation, and I'm self conscious about being in front of a camera.

Thanks for the post :)

Hey! Thanks for the comment :) I'm glad it has helped! I know the feeling it took me a while to be able to be comfortable with filming myself or speaking via audio. All apart of personal growth I guess! Never undervalue yourself :)

You're welcome!

Best,
Brad
