Quick tip: automatically back up your WordPress site to Dropbox

If you're not hosting your websites on WA, you will probably have to make your own website backups. For instance, I'm hosting most of my sites with Hostgator. They do make weekly backups, but you don't have access to them, and will have to file a request with customer support if you need your website restored from one of their backups. This is what they say about website backups:

HostGator backups are provided as a courtesy and are not guaranteed. Customers are responsible for their own backups and web content and should make their own backups for extra protection. For additional information, please refer to our Terms of Service.

I have been making my own backups manually, but I recently found a better solution: you can use a WordPress plugin to automatically make backups of your website to your Dropbox account. This plugin is completely free, and makes daily backups.

This is the plugin I'm using: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-backup-to-...

I also made a video tutorial on setting up this plugin correctly: https://youtu.be/GyN17xY_Uco

With over 10 active sites, this is definitely a time-saver for me, and knowing that everything is backed up daily definitely eases my mind.

If you're hosting outside of WA, I'd definitely recommend using this plugin.

LONG TIME NO HEAR!!!! How are you doing? From this blog, I would guess pretty good! Excellent post and thorough....from plugin to walk-thru. ...Thank you!

Hi Rosie, doing good, making progress. You?

Yeah, that's what I have and mine is automatically forwarded to my email. It really saves you a lot of work and no worries about losing your files.

Thanks Glob great tip and I will save. I haven't thought of changing hosting till recently but thins may be getting overtaxed here at WA.

Marty

Auto backup is a must. I am on hostgator and backup my sites dropbox. Very convenient. Thanks for the video, I wasn't using the same plugin but I will do now.

I have a site on another host and want to move it to WA. I need to back it up, but the only way I know is copy it and move my site, then paste it back. I have to change all the links including on pics which is no problem Will that work for me? Jim

That would work, but there are faster ways. I'll send you a private message with instructions, to stay on topic on this blog post.

Thanks. Jim
