Depending on where you are on your online journey, this review may overwhelm you or inspire you.
I ran across this niche website when doing research for an article (I am not connected to it in any way).
http://www.websitebuilderexpert.com/
I was so impressed because it's the kind of rich content-based, niche website that many of us are trying to build here at WA.
So here are my thoughts:
1) Focus, focus, focus
This is a site about building websites. Period. The domain says it, the home page says it, the organization and the posts / articles are all focused on one topic.
In my own journey, and even now, the temptation is to shoot broadly. Online marketing? Oh yeah, I need to cover landing pages, affiliate marketing, e-mail marketing, PPC and on an on.
Here on this site, you've got one topic, which communicates authority.
2) Headline and up-front survey on home page call out ideal prospect's paint points
"Non-technical and struggling to find the best website builder?"
3) Organized
Site is organized around different website builders (in the menu) and "types" of websites (below the fold).
4) Several posts around each topic

Each website builder receives 5-6 huge articles.
5) Clean, simple design
Blog posts down the left, with image, large, clear headline and teaser text. Lots of white space.
6) Review or List style of posts
Much of the content revolves around reviews (and they are pretty well done) or lists post, which work well. Lists posts allow you to break up your text into manageable chunks.
The reviews have separate numbered and colored sections, which make readability easier.
7) SEO looks good
This site is ranking #1 for several keywords in the website builder niche.
8) Nice additions - Social media share bar, hover bar at the top and exit pop-ups.
These are nice extras that add engagement and help to build a list. (The exit pop-up showed "8 Essential Tools Guide to Choosing a Website Builder." This is right in line with what a typical visitor would be looking for.)
OVERALL
The authors may very well have had a designer put their website together. All of the banners are in the same illustrated style, which adds to the visual pleasure of the site.
However, I believe it's the focus, rich content and organization which set this site apart. There is definitely much for me to learn.
