Competitive Advantage No. 2 - Authenticity

In the crazy and chaotic world that is the Internet, one of the biggest competitive advantages you will have is AUTHENTICITY!

There's a reason people are distrustful of the Internet. It's not just the world wide web (www), but the wild, wild, west where you can pretty much say anything for a profit.

Don't be that shuckster!

In addition, you're not a robot or a salesperson for crying out loud, so don't talk like either one in your blog posts.

Be a real person. Be honest, genuine and even vulnerable (within limits).

Tell stories or share some things about your personal life, you know, stuff that makes you more human. Crack jokes even (or if you're more serious like me), just tell folks you're a serious person, but to please not hold that against you.

You've still got their best interest in mind.

Authenticity is...refreshing. People are drawn to authenticity. They are frankly hungry for it.

When people hit your site with their guard up, authenticity disarms them and makes them glad they found you. Best of all, they will reward you for your genuineness by visiting again and again, commenting, sharing and yes, even purchasing from your site.

It's time to reclaim the wild, wild west. And you can do your part by being an authentic person.

Great post Gustavo and I absolutely agree with you. Authenticity is a competitive advantage in particular within the online world these days where so many companies have moved into a state of being "faceless" along with all of their support behaving in the same way.
