English as a Second Language Friends at WA

Sitting here at my laptop trying to write a blog post, I have been thinking of our friends at here at WA that write in English as a second language.

I get stuck and struggle to write often and it is so frustrating for me.

As English is my first and only language, you would think I could type out a blog post easily enough.

I want you wonderful multi-lingual people to know I admire you. Your skills and perseverance are commendable.

Even more so because you work through the training in English. Maybe it is just me, but I find the training challenging as an English only speaking person.

(Picture of my son, Dawson, on his 6th birthday in 2006)

I have to tell you something I find funny, my husband is Hispanic. His father's family came from Mexico and his mother was from England.

His Dad was a photographer in the US Air Force and met my husband's mother while he was stationed in England during WWII. He brought her back with him to Texas where they raised their children.

My husband and his siblings do not speak Spanish! They speak English because their Mom only spoke English and they just never needed to learn.

The funny part is my husband looks Hispanic and people think he is lying when he says he doesn't speak Spanish.:)

Anyway, good for you! Now I am getting back to work.

Thank you for reading!

~Gina

P.S. I am no editor, but if you want someone to give your post a quick read through, you can PM me and I will double check it for you.

I am bilingual and in Miami, Spanish is spoken more than English at times. It is very nice of you to help others editing their posts. Thank you for all of us that might reach out to you eventually,

Thanks Gina,

Jorge

I have only helped a couple of people, but maybe more in time. Not that I am an expert. English is just my first and only language ~Gina

As an Ehglish speaker I can relate to this - many thanks

Hi David, Thank you!

I've said that before. I SO admire anyone that does this with English as their second language. I give them a TON of credit!!!!! ~Debbi

That's right! Thank you Debbi.

Good post love the hat my son in law is always having people asking if he is Mexican lol even though he is English/Irish decent

Funny! Thanks Katie.

You're awesome! I think you could help a lot of people.

Thank you Liz. I don't know. Some of our international friends write in English better than I do and have pretty high standards. I am willing to try! ~Gina

Hi Gina, Thanks for this post, English is my second language, sometimes I have hard times when I'm writing a post for my sites or here on WA.
I could say WA offers a chance for all of us who speak English as a second language an opportunity to practice and use it more, practice makes the teacher, every day I can learn more from all you, new words and new sentences.
Alejandra.

Hi Alejandra, I have tried so many times to learn Spanish and even took a course at our local community college, I wonder if I took a training on how to do something written in Spanish if it would help me. I might try doing that. Thank you! ~Gina

Hi Gina, English is not my tongue and I can tell you it is hard, so we are handicapped as compared with native English speakers.

There was a post in the comment thread where the author writes that when you see such imperfect English this is then scam by definition. It really hearts when you see something like this. It seems that some forget that not everybody is born as an English native speaker.

Thank you for your offer, but this would make you very busy, I post almost daily.

Hi Jovo,

I have read negative posts and comments here. Some are well intentioned and others are just critical. The good news is, the Internet is international so limited opinions do not matter.

I do a lot of reading and even the big English primary speaking bloggers make mistakes. I enjoy finding them and it makes them more personable to me. We should do our best to be correct, but sometimes perfection is too sterile.

You do post a lot, I have trouble just keeping up with you on G+ to plus one your posts. You are excellent.

Thank you! ~Gina

Oops, I am spamming G+, sorry.

I don't think so. Anyway, I wasn't complaining Jovo!

Excellent post Gina, thank you for sharing and such a kind offer of proofing

Hi Alexander, Thank you!

I´m Mexican and I had the fortune of learning English since I was very young. I am currently living in Canada and can proudly say that more than once I´ve been told my English is really good =) I am always trying to make contact with the Latin people here in WA in case they need help with something they don´t understand but unfortunately it´s impossible to identify them all. If you ever see that a Spanish speaking person doesn´t understand tell them to look for me and I´ll gladly help them.

That is wonderful. I certainly will. Thank you Santiago!

Hola Santiago, I'm also Mexican living in Canada, one hour driving from Montreal. Nice to meet you here on WA
Alejandra.

Hola Alejandra! Si en algo te puedo ayudar dime y con gusto! Ya te estoy siguiendo también. Saludos!
