Hi,
I'm updating and changing my pages and first posts a lot. I'm still learning about how to use photos, size, titles, changing texts, rephrasing sentences and so on.

Is this sorted now Kallay?

yes ;)

Awesome! How are things with your site now?

Content is what gives your site its ranking and alll of it pages and posts.

Images are useful to illustrate the content helping the audience to understand.

Search engines crawl a website periodically.
If you have a routine schedule of adding new content, search engines are likely to crawl it based on your routine.

Thanks.

Hey there,

Your ranking in the search engines is first and foremost based on the relevancy of your content to a particular search phrase.

So, as a crude example, if someone searches on Google for "best dog toys" then my article about "ice cream flavours" is completely irrelvant and will not rank.

By the same token, if I have written an article about "dog food" it is still not completely relevant to that search.

So, when it comes to updating content the way in which your rankings may be affected is down to how more or less relevant you make the article to your chosen keyword.

If you add another image, a video, or a paragraph that is based around your chosen keyword, you have made your content more relevant, so you MAY see an increase in rankings (there are NO guarantees).

However, if you update the aritcle with items that are NOT relevant to your chosen keyword then you MAY drop in rankings (again, there are NO guarantees).

Whenever you do choose to update an article view it this way:

Am I adding more value to this article in terms of my chosen keyword?

A prime example could be that your article was originally titled:

"Top 10 Best Affiliate Networks"

So you update the article to become:

"Top 15 Best Affiliate Networks"

So, in essence you are creating more value by giving a wider choice.

Then again:

"Top 7 Best Affiliate Networks (Plus My Personal Recommendation)"

Could also be seen as adding value, as you've narrowed down the choice and will also be providing your personal experience and recommendation.

So, always ask yourself, "Am I providing more value?"

On a separate note, I will not usually update an article for at least 10-12 months after it was first published, unless there is something glaringly wrong with it.

The reason is that articles require some time to mature in the search engines before they eventually "settle" in a certain ranking position (and it can still change after this based on newer and more relevant articles being written every day).

Google and the other search engines use the initial period (8-9 months) to see where your article is best placed in the search results.

This is why you'll often find that an article shoots up and down in rankings on a regularly basis. Google is still trying to figure out where to place the article.

So, if you update an article, Google will crawl this article again, realise there have been changes made, and then will have to go through this whole process of deciding where to rank you based on the relevancy of your content.

Personally, I like to wait until I've "settled" into a certain ranking position and then make changes if I deem them necessary.

If I'm ranking number one, I see no reason to change anything.

If I'm ranking number 4, a quick tweak here-or-there could see me gain one of the coveted top 3 positions.

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your elaborated answer.

A side-question : if Google needs 8 months to evaluate your post, does it mean that, even in the best-case scenario, your post will need 8 months to reach the first search-page? I think I read about pages that went up in the ranking very fast. Very high quality of course, but it is encouraging, while waiting for 8 months to get a decent rating is disappointing.

Hi,

I've actually simplified the answer to avoid confusion, but there's actually a lot more too it.

It's NOT so much that Google takes 8-9 months to "evaluate" your post, it's that after this period of time you can have a pretty good idea of how much traffic that one post will produce.

We generally write an article focused around ONE keyword.

You can actually rank number one on Google for that ONE keyword the next day.

This is perfectly feasible. Okay, it may take slightly longer for a newer website, but you can still rank very quickly and maintain that ranking forever.

However, this isn't where the traffic and ranking life of your article ends.

As the article matures you will typically rank for more-and-more related keywords, and this is how ONE article can keep bringing in increasing traffic.

So, the 8-9 months is to evaluate the total traffic that one article will potentially bring.

I wouldn't say that my WA blog posts are specifically aimed at those who are very new to ranking, traffic, etc. but there's still a lot to learn from them.

I've shown in this WA blog post how one article can rank for a variety of keywords (I believe at the 3-month mark the article I mentioned in this blog post was ranking for 147 different keywords, but only 13 of these were bringing in any traffic): And in this WA blog post I've shown the compounding traffic effect an article can have as you start ranking for more keywords each month: So, in answer to your question, NO you don't 8 months to reach the first search page.

However, you will typically require 8 months to see the true traffic potential of one article (how many DIFFERENT keywords it ranks for).

This is explained in more detail in the blog posts I've included above.

Partha

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your comments.
It's a pity there are only 24 hours a day.
There is so much you can learn here at WA.

If you update your content it generally moves it up in the search engines. It's a good thing to do regularly. Lisa :-)

Thank you.

I am sorry I cant help yet, but I am following.

Hi,
in order to use the WA invoices for tax deductions by my company the invoices must be made for my company.
This causes several problems.

Minor problem : I ca

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the name of the company (to show there is a dot in the name) because it's translated into a clickable link. . And I also made a typo : Kallay is not my website, or the name of my company, haha.

Hi

You can edit your question at any time, clicking cogwheel top of questions and choosing edit.

Also you may want to direct this to Kyle leaving them a message on their profile space.

And explain your situation.

Hope you get it figured out sooner.

If it gives you better rankings, the choice is not difficult.
So the question is : does or doesn't it ;)
Let's check it.

Back links are liked by Google and Will improve your ranking.

I don't understand the concept of backlinks yet. If used with images it appears to me that there is a lot more HTML code steering your website.

Back links are inserted links that go back to your other posts. External links take you to another website. You can cut and paste the http/ address and insert it in dashboard in the text side . It is in the training somewhere, lol. I can’t find it , but it is there.

Hi - actually, backlinks are when another website is so impressed with your post, they link back to it! They are difficult to acquire.

Linking your own posts together is called internal linking, and is good for SEO.

Thanks for clarifying Diane.
