You can't play with it you must commit to it

You can't play with it you gotta commit to it. If you don't take yourself seriously then who will. Expect the people around you to say your playing or trying something and call it a project. But remember Edison, Tesla, Musk, Jobs, Bezos, Zuckerburg, Ford and Daimler all had projects projects some you may of heard about some you may have not. After all are you doing this for you or for them. So why does it matter what they say or think.

Ford was called Found on the road dead this was because he conducted his project experiments and "test drives" of his new invention during the day for the world to see. And what they continuously saw was a vehicle that kept breaking down. Daimler would conduct his project experiments and "test drives" in the middle of the night when he believed everyone was sleeping. No one saw his failures so when he announced his vehicle, he received more acclaim and to this day most people believe that Mercedes Benz are just great cars that work. You often hear people say the same thing about the iPhone. My point is that failure is inevitable regardless of who sees them or not.

Fear of failure could have stopped you from learning how to ride a bike as a child but it didn't. Because you were committed. Get back on the bike.

Excellent lessons. Most people won't understand this industry and will indeed think you are just playing. Let them think that - and enjoy when you start cashing the commission checks!
