Honesty Authenticity Integrity and Love - HAIL
Together they form acronym H.A.I.L. and the first time I heard of it was when I was watching a Ted Talk by Julian Treasure called "How to speak so that people want to listen" and he shows you how to use this method to build trust. Also equally important is another Ted Talk he gave called "5 ways to listen better". I've watched both of these Ted Talks several times to help me and I hope that it helps you.
It's a reminder of the importance of listening which is not only important in the workplace but also in the home. It also reminds me that honestly, I can't lie to myself (no one can) and why would I want to, when it hinders me and doesn't help me. So in the same vain lying to someone to "protect" them does just the opposite. Similar to telling someone what you believe they want to hear, as if the truth wasn't a part of that equation. When in most cases that is just what they want . . . your honesty.
Gossip, judging, negativity, excuses, complaining or exaggerating (which is still lying), lying and the confusion of facts with opinions or beliefs can be very dangerous to you, your business and those around you. I choose honesty, authenticity, integrity and love. I don't want to lie to myself, I don't want to be fake or be known for not keeping my word and I know Love Wins all day.
So to recap:
HONESTY
Don't lie to yourself. Often assumptions and expectations are lies that we tell ourselves and then use as gauges or tools of measurement as to why someone has let you down or disappointed you when they actually disappointed your expectations and assumptions. Being aware of your expectations, not making assumptions and Improving your communication can help with this.
AUTHENTICITY
Be you and stand in your own Truth
INTEGRITY
If you say it then do it. It's that simple, do what you say, keep your word. Not just with others but also with yourself
LOVE
Love what you do, Spread Love and let it be contagious because it is as contagious as Hate or any other wave of energy + motion or what we call emotions. You can rub off on them or they can rub off on you.

I like what you are saying Jumaane. We need to be constantly reminded of these things.
