Good to be back
After an absence of 4 weeks from WA, I'm excited to be back online. I've been away in rural South Africa where there is no data coverage from my service provider. Imagine being in the bush for 4 weeks with no or very little communication with the outside world. For an urban/city dweller that's like a prison sentence!
Satellite phones! That's what i need the next time I venture into the bush! The only problem with satellite phones in this country is the cost of acquiring one!The cheapest, reliable satellite phone in South Africa is around R12,000 (+-US$1000)! There goes the satellite phone idea......
As a country with a developing economy, its hard to say when we will actually enjoy good reliable telecommunications anywhere you roam in the country. for now I suppose we have to be content with what we have.....or don't have!
Can anyone share their telecomms experiences in the rural/countryside of their countries? Do you have reliable voice and data communications anywhere you travel in your country?

Hi Georgie,
Welcome back. Hope you had a good time.
You are not all alone in this ship. I am in Chicago, USA, using T-Mobile connection and suffering with almost similar issue. I am living in a well populated city but the reception is worst. I normally receive one bar on my signal and whoever calls me, i have to go out of my home to attend that call.
So don't you be sad. :-)

I can relate to your telecoms problems over here in rural Lincolnshire UK. Poor cell phone coverage but recently had fibre installed for internet and boy, what a difference!
Fibre Infrastructure is slowly being introduced to residential areas, but because of the costs here it will probably take a long time before we see it replacing traditional copper lines.
21st century takes a little time to reach some of us, gotta be patient!
