Please call me Geoff.

I am a retired System/Business Analyst living in the UK. I Always wanted to start my own online business but until now did not have a lot of spare time to devout to setting one up. I have tried lots of things to get websites setup and working but they were in effect only elaborate scams to get hold of my money and then left on my own to puzzle things out. I am also very wary about being offered things for free but told things get better but only if I pay for them before I have time to try the basic system out.

I was in the IT Industry for a very long time starting with operating punch card machines, moving onto very large computers that had less computing power than the laptop that I am using now, then server/dumb terminals before arriving at Personal Computing/Laptops/smart phones. My main background was in designing and implementing back office systems therefore, I never got into the website creation world. The nearest I came to it was designing screens to enable users to interact with data held in humongous databases. I didn't have to know how objects got onto the screen only about where they should be positioned and what to do with the data that was entered into them. So with all my design skills I am still just a novice when it comes to making a website work lol.

Part of my career was in the British Army where I started as an ordinary soldier and rose to the rank of Captain. I travelled the world visiting such places as Germany including Berlin (before the wall came down) and most of Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the New Territories (before being handed back to China). While I was serving in the UK I was introduced to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth and awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the Crown.

My playing days are limited now but I still like watching all types of sport with my favourite being Formula 1 racing and Football (Soccer). I was a competition Ten Pin Bowler until my wrist gave out, bowling an average of 260 a match.

My main hobbies are beekeeping, gardening and DIY so at times I am controlled by the weather but never short of something to do.

Hello Geoff,
Thank you so much for your follow. I am following you back. I see that you are a newbie to web design and for that matter WA. But that is a moot point since you are accomplished in your life and I am certain when you start doing the lessons you will get all that experience under your belt.
Let me know if I can help you in any way. All the best to you at WA

Thank you, Geoff, for following me. I'm betting we can learn something from each other here in WA and its large community. I'm picking up a good amount of knowledge on Internet marketing from Wealthy Affiliate, but it's just wasn't enough for me.

So, I've been teaching myself coding and so far it has been a true adventure for me. You see, I'm in the process of writing a step-by-step guide on how to build a website from scratch.

When I say from scratch I mean punching the coding language in by hand. There's also a second guide in the works for my web design and development company, it shows a person how to do anything you want with your WordPress website.

Well anyway, you are just as busy as I am. I wanted to say thank you for following me and welcome to WA. If you have any questions, I'm here to help. May God bless you and be the light for your journey.

Hi LeNard, I wish you every success with your business but coming from an IT background I would limit your design work to giving someone a base to plug different templates in to for a design similar to WA.

If you look at the number of messages on here from people who have just joined and expect to make money straight away what they want is something that works straight away and they wouldn't have the patience to build something from scratch.

I wish you all success with your ventures.

Hello Geoffrey,♫Welcome! Nice to meet you ツ I wish you a lot of learning pleasure and fun on WA. Thank you for adding me to your network.

From the start, I have written training for every issue I had problems with myself. I made an addition for After The Walkthrough. Also a list of 1001 niche ideas, a checklist with 25 points to go through before you publish a post, 101 blogging ideas when you get stuck and an A-Z WA dictionary. I just love lists:) It has been very helpful to a lot of people. I have listed them in one blog you can find on my profile. It's the first website link right under “Follow me on” (click on my picture to get there). I hope to help you with those.

If you have any questions, please reply to this message or leave a comment on my profile.
Success building your business in 2017. See you around, Greetings Loes

Good luck to you Geoff and thanks for the thumbs up. Your site looks great and is very informative with quality content. A great URL you are able to secure as well. I am a bit scared when it comes to the nasty wasps and hornets around me. I will do some more reading and educating at your informative site also. So are you going to link to sales on individual bee equipment? It looks like you could get a ton of not just onesey twosey items but the whole mass of accessories as folks look into beekeeping. Good luck to you and I hope to see more of you on WA. This is my real first day looking at the training and brainstorming.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff, thanks for networking with me and for your feedback on my niche. I am very passionate about honey bees and I can guarantee there is more to come that will make it even more interesting and hopefully, it will be the place to come for info. I am going to monetize it as much as possible as there are lots of stuff to buy for honey bees and their beekeepers and its not all for the hives either.

I hope you are having as good as time as I am on WA and looking forward to working with you in the future.

Good luck with all you do on here.

Hi Geoff -

That is great to have a niche that is accessory heavy too one other thing to note if one is to choose. It is even better with a passion too. Yes I would like to keep tabs and cheer and root each other on our progresses through this journey.

I look forward to working with you and congrats on your sites and achievements thus far!

hi Geoff, thanks for following me. Much appreciated.
I have a similar background in that I also have IT experience but it was all COBOL ... yup, one of those green screens :)
I haven't gotten into it yet, but I love bees and would like to do beekeeping myself.
I look forward to following you on your journey here.
Wishing you every success

Hi Gary, I used to be a COBOL programmer back in the 70's but it was the 1900 version on punch cards, no terminals of any kind in those days lol.

This is the link to my website if you would like to have a look and leave me some comments on the pages that look complete:

Still only a newbie myself but can certainly confirm that you've found the best place to get help with building a website.
Following the training and if there's anything that you need to know but can't find there, there's an awesome community just waiting to answer your questions.

I have seen you helping people with their questions and so I wanted to read your profile which I enjoyed - btw impressive meeting the Queen!
I decided to follow you as I too just joined this month and enjoying the lessons as well. If they can make me understand how to set up a website while here for the free week then I figured I'd have really found something. They exceeded my expectations - I made 2 lol, though neither have any content yet as I still need to get to those lessons!

Hi Shirley Anne, thanks for your confidence in what you see me doing. Remember what I put in my profile....... although I have an IT background this is all new to me too but its just a matter of applying yourself to learning and following the lessons and not moving on until you understand what you are doing and why. I have now finished Course 2 so I am going to spend some time finishing off my website as much as I can.

Keep pressing the green button and get those lessons done lol!!!

All the best for the future and thanks for networking with me.

First i have been told that I have consistently posted that thought for the past 465 days - no one has objected to it. I see many others similar to it - not sure why it would be wrong.

Hi Peter, no, not objecting to it as I like that kind of thing. I was surprised to see the post as something like a thought for the day goes hand in hand with what we are all trying to do on here. In fact I was thinking of starting a similar post myself but then thought better of it when I saw the rules being sent out.

Carry on as far as I am concerned.

Welcome to the Community, Geoff, and thanks for connecting with me.
I see you served in Berlin. When and with which unit?
I was a Pad Brat there at RAF Gatow in the 70's and early 80's. My Dad was up at T-Berg. I missed the Wall coming down but my brother was there and pulled a chunk off for me. You may well have met him. He worked for F&N, the GFA company that did all the unit and individual moves to and from BFG.
My biggest regret from my own service is not doing a tour in Berlin or down the Zone myself although I did have the opportunity. I didn't expect the Cold War to end quite the way it did!
Wishing you every success on your WA journey :-)

Hi Rich, small world. I was in Berlin 77 - 79 with Ord Services in the Computer Services located in the Supply Depot at Spandau. I was responsible for printing all the Fris orders which is why i never had a sports afternoon on a Wednesday, got mine on a Thursday lol. I may have met you Dad but I was came from Rheindahlen to Berlin and moved a lot of stuff myself except for my boxes. When the cold war came to an end I was developing a new Stores System for BAOR and visiting Viersen a lot from UK. The boss pulled us off that project but as we were going into the system build phase the team I was working with were switched to Hong Kong to give them a decent system to pull out with. A month in Hong Kong every few months beat Viersen any day lol.

All the best and wish you every success.

Good old FRIS lol - I remember the weekly trips there and the car boot full of frozen meat and half stale bread like it was yesterday!
Definitely a small World as you say, I got to know Wiersen quite well too as I did a couple of exercizes at Rhinedahlen, RAF Bruugen and it's evolution into Javelin Barracks and the dreaded Sennelager.
Loved Germany. One of my ambitions is to hire out a river cruiser in the Havel Land and take it on a circular route all the way from Brandenburg around the Berlin lakes and Potsdam that we couldn't go to before.
It's one of the top items on my Bucket List.

The computer centre was next to the Depot Bakery so no stale bread for me especially when they were practicing for a competition lol. I did two tours in JHQ and were always told that the building was initially built as a hospital but wouldn't like to go in there as a patient now. I once did think about selling my house and buying a barge but at the moment thinking about emigrating to the Philippines for the warmer climate. I did a couple of years in Singapore 69 - 71 and never got back to liking the european weather brrrr!!

Hi Geoff!

Nice to meet you! Thank you for your service!

We share a common ground... I started out in the 80's learning the punch card system, the mainframe, then on a desktop computer learning the "basic" program writing to save to tape drive - which was garbage and didn't work half the time. I learned how to save to a floppy disk and then later to the CD. I'm not computer technical... I can't fix anything on them or write programs. Oh well .... :D

Perhaps you will have better luck and make WA work. I ended up as an analyst and designer so the techys would never let me play with the system lol.

Hi Geoff
We seem to have much in common. Both Brits; both "semi retired; both same age group; both like F1 & soccer. (whom do you support?); both "newbies" here at WA - I might have just a week on you! And both with a healthy cynicism to shiny new things thrown at us from all over the web.

I think WA is OK - seems so. I'm following the training, in sequence, slowly but surely. I get stuck in places but plod on!

I hope we both succeed in our aspirations online.
Kind regards
Richard

It would appear that we have similar interests but miles apart in who and what we support and follow. I follow Liverpool and support Sheffield United when I can get to Bramall Lane. F1, its Lewis and Merc all the way with a strong support of McLaren and keeping my fingers crossed that they start getting back to where they should be once they have a decent engine in the car. I have a strong IT background so know about a lot of the techy stuff without having done it lol. I was only a designer so I wasn't allowed to be let loose on the systems lol.

WA is the best I have found so far for online marketing as you can see folks achieving success and there is always help on hand if you need it. Just keep pressing the green button and follow the plan.

Good luck with all you do and keep asking!!

All the best,

Geoff

Arsenal (play Liverpool 27th Sept) and Brentford (my boyhood home town). F1 - agree ... Lewis all the way ... provided he doesn't get pushed off the track again (lol!)

Am on the green button! Plodding away! Thanks your support & encouragement. It is a bit daunting but ... in for a penny and all that!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)
