Please call me Geoff.
I am a retired System/Business Analyst living in the UK. I Always wanted to start my own online business but until now did not have a lot of spare time to devout to setting one up. I have tried lots of things to get websites setup and working but they were in effect only elaborate scams to get hold of my money and then left on my own to puzzle things out. I am also very wary about being offered things for free but told things get better but only if I pay for them before I have time to try the basic system out.
I was in the IT Industry for a very long time starting with operating punch card machines, moving onto very large computers that had less computing power than the laptop that I am using now, then server/dumb terminals before arriving at Personal Computing/Laptops/smart phones. My main background was in designing and implementing back office systems therefore, I never got into the website creation world. The nearest I came to it was designing screens to enable users to interact with data held in humongous databases. I didn't have to know how objects got onto the screen only about where they should be positioned and what to do with the data that was entered into them. So with all my design skills I am still just a novice when it comes to making a website work lol.
Part of my career was in the British Army where I started as an ordinary soldier and rose to the rank of Captain. I travelled the world visiting such places as Germany including Berlin (before the wall came down) and most of Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the New Territories (before being handed back to China). While I was serving in the UK I was introduced to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth and awarded the British Empire Medal for services to the Crown.
My playing days are limited now but I still like watching all types of sport with my favourite being Formula 1 racing and Football (Soccer). I was a competition Ten Pin Bowler until my wrist gave out, bowling an average of 260 a match.
My main hobbies are beekeeping, gardening and DIY so at times I am controlled by the weather but never short of something to do.

Nice goals Geoffrey!
The reality here at WA is that so much can be achieved if people are prepared to take action on what they continue to learn from the training and WA community.
I wish you every success on your WA journey, Geoffrey, and by all means drop me a line if you need a hand with anything along the way :-)
Cheers,
Marcus

Hi Geoff and welcome to WA. You are in the right place to learn how to start your own online business. I looked at and tried many but none even come close to what we have here. Thank you for adding me to your network and I will do the same. All the best to you.

Hi Geoff
We seem to have much in common. Both Brits; both "semi retired; both same age group; both like F1 & soccer. (whom do you support?); both "newbies" here at WA - I might have just a week on you! And both with a healthy cynicism to shiny new things thrown at us from all over the web.
I think WA is OK - seems so. I'm following the training, in sequence, slowly but surely. I get stuck in places but plod on!
I hope we both succeed in our aspirations online.
Kind regards
Richard

It would appear that we have similar interests but miles apart in who and what we support and follow. I follow Liverpool and support Sheffield United when I can get to Bramall Lane. F1, its Lewis and Merc all the way with a strong support of McLaren and keeping my fingers crossed that they start getting back to where they should be once they have a decent engine in the car. I have a strong IT background so know about a lot of the techy stuff without having done it lol. I was only a designer so I wasn't allowed to be let loose on the systems lol.
WA is the best I have found so far for online marketing as you can see folks achieving success and there is always help on hand if you need it. Just keep pressing the green button and follow the plan.
Good luck with all you do and keep asking!!

Arsenal (play Liverpool 27th Sept) and Brentford (my boyhood home town). F1 - agree ... Lewis all the way ... provided he doesn't get pushed off the track again (lol!)
Am on the green button! Plodding away! Thanks your support & encouragement. It is a bit daunting but ... in for a penny and all that!

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".
I know, same thing happened to me when I started.
I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.
Get back to me when you get the chance! :)
