Blog Headline Examples - Attention Grabbing Words & Phrases
Examples Of Good (And Not So Good) Blog Headlines
How does one write a blog headline that POPS? Take a look at the image up top? Does it make the cut or could it have been much better? It actually wasn't easy finding a poorly executed headline. I finally entered "Horribly written search engine headlines" which finally coaxed Google into giving me the result.
If you think this headline could be improved, you're right. Here's a few pointers of what went wrong:
- Inconsistent use of capital letters.
- Title goes over the allotted character limit and so it runs on....
- The snippet went unedited and the post wasn't categorized.
- Nothing about the title POPS out.
- For a bit of a laugh notice the post comes from a content agency.
On the other hand the article does appear on Google page one though as an example or by its own merit, I'm not sure.
Write Catchy Headlines That Grab Someone's Attention
The above image displays headlines from well known author, Jeff Goins, and the successful copyblogger blog. Notice Jeff Goins leaves the word "to" uncapitalized which separates the two main title themes. 5 Easy Tricks and Write Catchy Headlines stands out. Copyblogger uses the same technique. I prefer to use all capital letters when composing headlines.
The Paramount Importance of Headlines
Notice I used the technique described above this time? I used the smaller case "o" to break the headline up. Either way works fine though writers should stay with one or the other.
Famous affiliate marketer Neil Patel agrees with Jeff Goins' assessment about the importance of eye-catching headlines. As Neil says in his blog:
Don't Skimp On Your Blog Post Headlines
We know that content rules the Google universe these days. Incessant hours of hard work and preparation go into many articles we write. This post is no more than a friendly reminder to take those extra 5 or 10 minutes to create an Eye-Catching, Stand Out, In Your Face, Jumping, Popping headline on every page or post. Best of wishes and Happy Holidays. Geoff Stadnyk.

I accidentally erased this post and had to write it over. Incidentally it did rank for several keywords. Pages 1, 2, and three. In competition with Neil Patel and Jeff goins. :)

Yes, I agree, the headline can 'make' or 'break' your post. Since most online surfers are skimmers they will never stop to read something unless it literally jumps out to catch their attention. Headlines are also most publishers weakest skill, which I must confess my guilt as well. Maybe a training lesson is in order.
Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you.

Did yoi get a laugh out of that first headline? :)
