Buying Your Own Domain Gets You Recognized By Google Quicker
I'd like to begin by saying that I am pleased to be a part of Wealthy Affiliates. The support and ideas you get here are the best, bar none. You still have to do the work, but there are many who will put you in the right direction.
Buying A Domain vs WA Sub Domain
I have two websites, so far. I was waiting for both of them to be recognized by Google. Both websites were originally started as a 'SiteRubix' website. However, I decided to buy a domain name for the second site I started, which was probably about a week after I started the first one.
I ended up buying the domain for the second site I started and Google found it much quicker than the first one, which is still a sub-domain site with SiteRubix.
I'm not demonizing the one over the other, but what I am saying is that if you buy your own domain, Google seems to find it much quicker.
I also wonder if buying your own website might not get you ranked highly on Google much quicker also.
With the domain buys at a very cheap price (mine was $13.99 for the year), you may want to consider buying a site, rather than just sticking to a sub-domain, like SiteRubix.
If you can't afford it right now, sell something around the house that will score you $15 bucks so you can buy your own domain name.
In the end, I think you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for sharing!
I am new to this, but i already own a couple of domains i want to use.
I guess i will find out during training, but do i also need to get the hosting done somewhere, or can my site be hosted via WA while using my own domain?
Thanks,
kev
I would also suggest you go with PREMIUM WA as soon as you can IF you haven't done so already. It will benefit you greatly.

You can buy your own domain name here and I would suggest that. I think it will save you money in the end and to connect to the back end of your sites is easy peasy.

You can do everything you need to do right from here! However, if you DO use the sub-domain and later decide to buy your own domain (which you'll see the option to do so from WA), leave your sub-domain open for about a month before deleting it as Google will refer your sub-domain info to your newly bought domain name over time.
After about a month, I would say it's safe to delete the old site.
