Separating the wheat from the chaff

Have you ever found yourself in a situation whereby you can't quite decide what to do in order to accomplish your goals?

Although, asking for advice, suggestions or recommendations are ways of gaining knowledge, it can also get you even more confused than you started with. Yes, people are well intended but there are also some who are set out to lead you astray, so beware.

If you don't already have a goal, that is, a desired outcome in mind, the suggestions you get from people may end up derailing your plan completely and you may find yourself where you didn't want to be. As many of us may have found out, this could be very costly and also have the potential of causing irreparable damage.

How to separate the wheat

  • Have a clearly defined goal
  • Be resolute about your desired outcome
  • Do your due diligence or research, if you will, about the possibilities
  • Know what you will not consider (those things against your values)
  • Ask relevant and probing questions
  • Be open minded
  • Don’t be hasty in making decisions
  • Know who is giving the advice (if they have an ulterior motive)

I’m sure you can think of many more factors to add to this list. Please feel free to share your experience with us.

Thanks for reading.

My biggest ishue is that i feel i have a good life, so doing my business is more a kind off sport where i practice and Reach some goals, i have make my Define purphase but its stil just a note in my wallet

Good to hear from you Steen! Having a good life is awesome but I wish you a great life. I hope you accomplish your goals. Thanks!

You to thanks i Will reaseve my goals its just a matter of time. My gameplan is not so teigth

I would also add...

a. Set yourself a definite goal
b. Quit running yourself down
c. Stop thinking of all the reasons why you cannot be successful and begin thinking of all the reasons you can be successful
d Stop thinking about what it is you fear
e. Each time a fear comes into your consciousness, replace it with a mental picture of your worthwhile goals and imagine your life with your goals fulfilled
f. Change the image you have of yourself by writing out a description of the person you would like to be
g. Act the part of the successful person you have decided to become

Wish I could take credit for this, but I must give credit where credit is due ... another WAer, JohnMaheu, posted this link earlier today. (Thank you, John!) :-)

God bless you richly for these additions, Cathy! Negativity can come from within but we should not allow ourselves to dwell on them.

Yes, you are right. It's important to set goals and know what your values are that you won't cross. But, I do know that there can be a lot of misinformation because some people just want to get money from you whether it's true or not. It's a matter of doing your research with anything.

You're absolutely correct, Helen! Much of the facts are available for us to find. We only need to know where to look.

You've just about covered it, Ade. Nice.

Thanks Debbi!

What a great post for goal settings sis.

Goals are often taken lightly but our lives revolve around them. I think our goals should be guarded close to our hearts.
Thanks sis!

Hi Ade.

I have two things I concentrate on:

1) making a decision - how you achieve what you focus on is unimportant when making the decision to achieve it - "we will put a man on the moon and return him safely to Earth within the decade" - he didn't have any idea how that would happen when he said that, but because he decided that - people followed and made it happen (I'm maybe generalising a bit - but I hope people see the sentiment)
2) baby steps - don't think of how high the staircase is - think of how small each step is - tackle it one at a time - don't think about more than one at a time, and when you look back you will have climbed the staircase

All the best, Mark

I like your trail of thought, Mark! Thanks for giving me something fresh to ponder on.

Thanks, Ade, for the great insight! It's appreciated.
