The Merits of Commitment

So I mentioned commitment in my Bio, and I have thought a lot on it in the past couple of days. They have been some of the most interesting of my life. The circumstances that came to light on April 6, 2011, made me stop and take stock of what was happening in my life and how I was prepared to deal with it. I wasn't, not in the least. Naturally, I began wondering why that was.

I realized that I had failed to create firm commitment to a purpose in my life. I knew I wanted to be successful, but never really had a clear definition of success that truly resonated with me. Then suddenly it dawned on me, Success for me means creating the life I want. That is simply what success is.

Many people look for measures of success like money, power, freedom, but these are all tangibles. Who is to say what makes one person happy will make all the others happy. Or is the question more of what drives the person? Of course, all these together create a pretty optimal environment for happiness according to the 16 basic desire theories of intrinsic motivation.

Now that I know what success means to me I simply go about deciding what I want in my life. I give myself a time line on it and I set about moving toward it step by step. My primary example is my body. I am committed to having a body that looks and performs a certain way through out my life as far as I can control that. Things that I used to do that I don't anymore or cut back significantly so that I can  reap that result.

Sure getting into the gym is hard, but once I commit there is no other option. I am there and I have a job to do. Starting is often the most difficult thing in the world. Once i get the ball rolling though I focus. I go to work around building my life, the life I want. Incidentally, I noticed that success requires a mental invitation. I have to say, "Yes!" to success. Especially when the  going gets tough. That "Yes!" keeps me moving forward. When I am committed I am committed to success, so the inevitable answer is yes.

mindset is so important, you will go far in life

Excellent post! Just say "yes" to success. Success and happiness go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. If you're not happy, you're not successful.
