1. Create a Commute

Jump in your car, head down to your local coffee shop and grab a cup of coffee. This helps shift your brain from Personal time To Business time and puts you right into the proper frame of mind you need to start your day.


You may even take your daily walk around the block, or sit on your porch and read the paper for 10-15 minutes. We need to simply to Get Our Mind to shift gears and Go from Home to Business Mode and any one of the above ideas will work wonderfully.


Please note, if you start doing laundry, making the beds or stuffing the dishwasher, that is NOT shifting from Personal To Business.

2. Create Mental Breaks

This is very important, in addition to lunch breaks away from your Home Office, Plan on 2-3 daily breaks away from your desk. If you don't schedule this "For Me Time" it will not happen.

Simply taking 10-15 Minutes is all you need to give your mind a break. Walk outside and just take in everything around you or do some stretching. You will instantly feel rejuvenated. Creative ideas will begin to happen when the mind and body are relaxed and stress-free.

3. Change location

Get away from your desktop and take the iPad or Laptop and go sit somewhere different and do some work. Here is an idea that I have done numerous times. There are several beautiful Hotels in my city and I will leave my Home office, get in my car and drive to one of those hotels. Once there I Grab a comfy chair in their beautiful lobby and do some work right there.

4. Listen To Pleasant Music

If you start to feel the pressure or overwhelmed, soft soothing background music can be just the ticket. Maybe you love Jazz or Classical, be careful not so loud as to distract you but keep it playing ever so slightly in the background. It will eliminate stress and you will be surprised how great, these simple tips will make your day.

Something to consider.

You know for 8 years or so I worked from IBM from home as a Database Administrator. Salary from $102k to $139k.
This was a great situation. I love the corporate world and I excel at it. If I Had not had 3 strokes I would still be there. In my case whenever I logged on the computer I was in work mode. This is still true today.

LOL. I hadn't thought about a hotel. That's funny. Could be inspirational.

Previously I did not pay attention to breaks between writing and researching. Now I see that it is a vital thing to me. I like your idea about hotels. I think that especially at winter time it is a great escape from routine sitting at home and contemplating by computer.
