Second Day at WA

So, it's my second day at WA and, I'm trying to take in all of what the site has to offer. I may have taken a different path to learning to most people and have consumed the first four modules of the training before starting on my websites. I'll tell you why.

I'm a qualified network engineer and website developer. I'm a PHP programmer and am a developer-level WordPress user. I found the entire first three modules to be a real yawn-fest. They were simply tutorials on how to use SiteRubix and how to use WordPress. As I said, I am a developer-level user of WordPress and do not need tutorials on how to use WordPress.

But, I did get some value from the tutorials. They were only two tutorials in the first four modules that I bookmarked as having any new information for me. With my skills, I'm more than competent in making websites and being a hobbyist writer, I'm quite capable of making content.

It's the sales and SEO component that I've always sucked at and that's what I'm here to learn, so I wasn't presented with any information of substance or value until the third module.

Google Analytics. Check. I've used it many times with websites I've developed. I'm in a position where I can create my own WordPress themes and, as a PHP programmer, I can program WordPress Plugins.

I'm a little hesitant to use SiteRubix as I own my Virtual Private Server and have no problems hosting websites. But I think that I may use SiteRubix, as it will allow me to host affiliate sites without them being tied to my server or my website business. I'm a little old-school when it comes to the internet and I can't shake the feeling that affiliate websites and advertising sites are anything other than spam.

That said, I'm here to learn how to do this and now that I've consumed the first four modules, I feel I'm ready to make a site.

I'm not trying to be cynical or sceptical but I really feel that this website is geared towards people coming from a completely different place than me and I found the entirety of the first three modules and most of the fourth module to simply be tutorials on how to use SiteRubix and how to use WordPress, neither of which I need training with.

Another reason I'm hesitant to use SiteRubix is that I won't have Administrator control over my databases and, although it's not that important, I like to be in control and have Administrator rights to the entirety of my websites.

The first niche I chose to investigate was 'Virtual Reality' products like 'Oculus Rift' and 'Leap Motion' and 'Samsung Gear VR' all of which are new products which I was hoping to be able to sell online. After following Kyle's advice on finding affiliate programs, I found little to sell in this niche at all. It may be because these products are new and many are not available at a retail level yet at all. I have a developer kit for the Oculus Rift and the Leap Motion and I may be best off trying to sell '3D Tutorials' or simply building a 'Virtual Reality' content site and establishing authority before the market really kicks off in Q1 next year.

I can't help but feel I've wasted my money here. I've learnt very little from the first three courses and the services like SiteRubix are not that useful to me as I own my own Virtual Private Server.

But, I will go ahead and keep working on it. I can't help but shake the feeling that I'm 'selling out' by doing Affiliate and Advertising sites but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?

This is one the very few affiliate programs that I have found in my niche. I think I may be a bit early for this niche as most of the products in the 'Virtual Reality' niche are not being released until Q1 next year:

I am still searching for Affiliate Programs in my chosen niche but there is little to be found. I think I may be a bit early, so my best course of action may be to establish an authority site and wait for the products to hit the retail market.

Hey Foxlaw, I dig your healthy scepticism. It is wise to be critical of all these online money making schemes for sure. What I do with my niche when I cant find stuff I wanna refer people to is to create stuff or speak to people I know who are doing it already and then simply link to their sites or in fact just stock their products, or list their phone numbers and I arrange with them to get commission on sales...

First or let me say I would love if we could join on a team in a way you can help me and I can help you but I need your help bad I have no idea how this whole WordPress layout is stuck if you could be so kind to make me understand it I can show you the whole advertising and sales now I havent been doing this long but I've work for Anthony Morris and Joel the down and ATS and know have found I belong to a family of people of same interests so what u say Fox law by chance do you have a older man as a friend name foxtrot I have a friend named that and they all have a name like that

Will need some assistance with my site if you are interested I did leave a telephone number for you but I cannot see my last message that I sent to you did you delete it to protect the phone number by any chance?

Did you start a site already, or something?

Hi Cheryl, follow the step by step lessons on the green tab and it will help you create a site like no one else can, right here, with live feedback and many places to ask questions plus get lots assistance. But follow the lessons, follow each step and do the tasks, pause as much as u want to while having another window open where u build your site, small steps. I am also still busy, slowly is holy...

Thank you as you will be correct I am also considering a second monitor to build my site as I can watch live training first hand and build on the other computer that is how many would have learned to do their own creations.

Mate you have to be making money off any or all of your sites through product sales and that means promoting products from Amazon as much as possible that is what I will be doing I looked into too many affiliate programs and this is the only one I will stay with now

I think you maybe on a different par here foxelaw as a website builder I am surprised to see that like me you don't have one yet, however I am from a different background altogether and am taking my time to assess because I have seen a lot of material in the past that has been here-say.

i have a number of websites and utilise my own Virtual Private Host. I usually outsource the contracting of the actual website design to contractors.

Thank you for your frankness.

And thank you for yours. I'm really interested in developing alternative income streams and hope that I can get something out of the training here at WA. I'm researching other niches that I can maybe become involved in, other than the 'Virtual Reality' niche. I am currently researching the 'Reiki' niche, which is another interest of mine.

I feel that most people studying here at WA are coming from a different place than me. I do not need training in how to use WordPress or platforms like SiteRubix. I really came here to learn the sales and SEO component of the online world.

I'm a DOS chick from the days of Fortran and Cobol programming ...where were u in '82...lol...yet I have trouble moving an image!
Gone are the days of waiting 6 hours for your progam to run only to find it caught in a loop. You had to save constantly because they computers would crash daliy. The CPU was in a room larger than your dorm room. It sucked. But when your program successfully ran, it was the BEST feeling.
Isn't Reiki a type of massage? This cute Asian lady was performing it on my friend at a wedding dance...he has Crohn's disease and he said it gave him almost immediate relief, well, until his wife came along and saw her rubbing his stomach...he was in it deep over that ... it was his first and last experience with it. They are divorced but not for that of course....hilarious....I know Dave would enjoy your site.
I will watch for the Virtual Reality site construction.
People will be bombarding you for your know how! Maybe you'll get some business right here at WA. Nice to meet someone so knowledgeable.
Holycow! 5 am here...I try to get to sleep by sun up each day. I like it that way. No I don't sleep in a coffin. Empty nest now so It's great that I am healthy enough to enjoy it and do whatever I want. Selfish people live the longest. I paid my dues.. ( Just kidding, not too selfish).
I can't wait to see how you progress here. I'll be routing for you. Talk soon!

Hi. I was born in 1982, so you come from a different generation from me entirely too.

I am currently studying Game Design and so I am learning 3D Design with Unity and Unreal and am studying C/C++ and C#. I don't suspect I'll have any need to learn Fortran or Cobol programming in the near future. ;)

I have a developer kit for the Oculus Rift and the Leap Motion. Have you been watching the movement in the Virtual Reality world? There are several kits like the Oculus Rift, the Samsung Gear VR and even Google Cardboard set to hit the market soon. Mozilla have been talking about MovVR and there is a lot of talk about how Virtual Reality gaming is going to impact the online world. I'm keen to be a part of it. I have my developer tools and I'm learning 3D and C.

Reiki is an energy practice for healing that I have been fond of for sometime. It helps me a lot with keeping myself together.

I am also fond of Yoga and Martial Arts which may be some other niches that I can look into.

Thanks for your comments.

Here's a question:

What do you think about Affiliate Marketers basing their business and their success and income solely off open-source tools and software?

I mean so far, this course has been little other than instructions on how to use WordPress created using free screen-capture software.

Sure, they provide support but they want you to host your sites here and all they are doing is providing a platform for you to use freely available software.

I'm almost gone to bed but couldn't resist replying. My youngest son studied C/C++ Coding in Java is all I have attempted and gave up!
He is really into yoga as well and it surprises me how well he is doing. He was the chubby Harry Potter look alike in school and was royally picked on. You weren't going to find him on the football field! He slimmed out when he started uni like a lot of boys (thank goodness). it's my 31 year old son (next month - Sept./84) that will have the interest in Virtual Reality. I joke that he lives in Real Reality as he has never set foot in uni. The younger one will remain in the bubble as long as he can. He starts his ninth year this fall (Nov/89). I think you will do very well with a martial art and yoga niche. You have both the passion and the edge professionally.
Talk more about Reiki soon.
Narda (Jun/62)...lol...
